G9X display in bright sunlight?

I am looking for a compact camera to compliment my m4/3 system but worry about using a camera without a viewfinder. Is the G9X usable in bright sunlight?

Thanks in advance.

Re: G9X display in bright sunlight?

I`m afraid that`s a rather subjective topic, and it certainly won`t be as convenient as a viewfinder (especially if you`re used to one).

That said, for me (owning G7 X), LCD is pretty much usable in almost all bright-light conditions - yet for G7 X it helps tilting a screen a bit from time to time, something that G9 X isn`t capable of. But you can always use the other hand for making some shade, if absolutely needed, might be even using touch-shutter alongside it for even more convenience

A very neat thing (G9 X included) is that you can temporarily bump screen brightness to maximum by simply holding the bottom ("DISP.") part of the back control ring, something that I think we all use, being really helpful, especially if you otherwise prefer low LCD brightness for regular use.

If you`re not a grumpy one, but willing to adapt and accept some compromises in favor of gain in other departments, you should be fine Size/pocketability is G9 X`s main selling point, yet the quality coming with it is pretty impressive, too (having in mind the package they squeezed it in).

Re: G9X display in bright sunlight?

Thanks for the reply. I had noticed the one button boost to screen brightness - I had a similar feature on my Panasonic LX2 which I used a lot while my kit was heavy Nikon DSLR. Now I have switched to m4/3 I need something smaller than the LX2 which I haven't used for a while. The LX2 is barely smaller than the m4/3 with 14-42EZ lens.

The G9X appeals because of its small size and 1" sensor. Slightly concerned about the touch screen dependency but more concerned by lack of viewfinder. Choices with a viewfinder are very limited though. They are either small sensor superzooms or fatter than the G9X so not much difference to the m4/3.

'barely' Keith, but I don't take too many in bright sunlight.  Bumping the brightness helps slightly....

Re: G9X display in bright sunlight?

Thanks for the useful comments.  My G9X arrived today. Looks good so far - proper test this weekend. I couldn't bring myself to go for a small sensor superzoom just to get a viewfinder.

Thanks

Keith
