Samsung 50-150
1

Hello community,

I've purchased a used 50-150 and it should be arriving in a few days.  I'm looking for 50-150 owners who are very familiar with the lens to give me some tips on testing and what to look for (first time buying used)

From research it looks like I should be checking 2 things with this particular lens (outside of checking the glass)

1.  Zoom ring noise when zooming

2.  Mounting issues when the lens is mounted

Also...

a)  Does anyone know where I can buy the tripod extension for the lens?  Google hasn't been helpful and it doesn't look like samsungparts.com is still carrying it.

b) I've read you can change the focus distance to improve focusing?  How do I go about doing this?

c) There also seems to be a switch (full, custom..) under the AF/MF that I'm unfamiliar with on the lens.

Thanks!

The tripod attachment should come with the lens.

Oh yeah...last question.  Is the serial number inscribed anywhere on the actual lens?

It may be a SamsungParts lens, how much did you pay for it? This is an answer to the people wondering about the NX system, there are incredible offers happening throughout this system, unparallaled to any other.

The Australian parts supplier may still have it:

http://www.sparepartsmarket.com.au/Samsung/ad97-24486a-samsung-assy-frame-tripod-mount-collarxl1406-p-61732.html

Pretty pricey at 76 though. I'm not sure if that's USD or Aussie dollars.

Edit: Also, they had this to say about international shipping:

"International Shipping

We do not ship to any locations outside of Australia. However, if you have a very special request, then please contact us and we will see if we can help, however please be aware that international shipping from Australia is very expensive and would probably cost you at least AU$100 just for shipping."

So you may find it useful to use a service like Aramex Shop and Ship, I give this only as an example, they probably don't serve your area, but there is likely a similar company that does.

Yes, it is on the mount side of the silver ring just by the red dot.

See my other reply.  Really need to search by the parts number to get anything at all and when you do all you get is samsungparts and the Australian site I linked.

b) I've read you can change the focus distance to improve focusing? How do I go about doing this?

You can limit the focus range which ensures it spends no time looking for focus outside of that range.

c) There also seems to be a switch (full, custom..) under the AF/MF that I'm unfamiliar with on the lens.

This is exactly your answer to part b).  "Full" is normal lens operation, if you set the switch to "set" you can set a range of focus on the screen (though I wish it were a bit more fine grained), putting the switch to "custom" makes the lens limit the possible focus distances to the range you set in "set" mode.

Thanks!

For the 50-150 they also have a diagram for what all the parts are:

One bit of wisdom I've acquired the hard way. If your camera looks like it should be able to take a photo, but is unresponsive and you cannot figure out what the problem is ... check that this slider is not accidentally knocked to the SET position. Don't ask how I know. Or how many times I've done this before I finally learned to stop panicking and just flip the switch...
