So what are you doing now that Samsung has...

...pulled out of the camera market?  I realize that most of us experienced a mix of anger, irritation, and sadness when Samsung pulled out the way they did.  But each person reacts differently.  So here's a quick poll.

As for me, since I've been shooting with a variety of other mirrorless options (i.e. Fuji X, Micro 43, and the Canon EOS M system), I've been spread between all of them. I still use my NX500, NX300, and NX30 often, but if the Samsung's were the only ones I bought into, I imagine I'd still be depressed about it all.

What are you doing now that all of this occurred...?

The Samsung NX system was all I had, so I am continuing to use my system and am ever so careful to baby my gear so my cameras will last a long time. In addition, I'm trying to find other Samsung gear on the open market at great prices.

I became disenchanted with Samsung since they pulled out the way they did. So I've either sold off what I had, or I'm in the process of doing so. I'm now looking at other brands.

I've since bought into another brand(s) and have been using them quite regularly now.

I am one of those who shoots with a variety of brands and although Samsung's departure from the camera market was a huge let down, I've been quite busy using the other brand system cameras I own.`

Yo mamma, because my case wasn't covered in the poll. I was also shooting with Canon from the beginning, but even with Samsung out and with me purchasing more Canon gear, I'm still shooting about 3:1 Samsung:Canon. I'm also still heavily looking at cross system gear like those Laowa lenses. Maybe I should do a tour de force of buying macro lenses, 15 and 60 Laowa, 100 Samyang, and then maybe 100 L or 180 dedicated for Canon (because while shooting wide open doesn't matter much for a long prime it is crippling for a macro. Having trouble deciding on the Canon side IS and slightly better optics vs a much more preferable worming distance. My only major regret with Samsung is that I haven't gotten my hands on the 300. Who do I need to pay to get one of those prototypes? Lol.

I'm still expanding my Samsung with Pentax adapter and lenses. My NX1 and NX500 is all i need for now. I'd like to go back to Fuji, but I tried the new X-T2 and it is still not as fast or responsive as my NX1. Fuji just doesn't seem to get it. They have excellent optics but cameras take a second seat to them.

The nx1/nx500 are some of the best apsc cameras available.

Since Samsung pulled out I've purchased an NX1, 30mm, 50-200, and rokinon 12mm.

I guess you could say I still love my Samsung gear.

My usage does not fit any of your poll responses. My NX1 & NX500 continue to be my primary "large sensor" system, with the occasional use of my Sony RX1.

I also use the Nikon 1 (J5 & V3) a lot for my "small sensor" ILC system and the Sony RX100mkIII and RX10mkI as my fixed lens "small sensor" cameras.

All the systems work great and give me great results. The NX1 is my hands down favourite to shoot with when size doesn't matter, but so often, for how I shoot, size does matter, so the other cameras typically get packed along more often.

At this point I'm pretty thrilled with my gear and my only sense of GAS would be for a Nikon 1 V4 if it were to be released with the capabilities of the V3 (or better) and sensor of the J5 (or better).

The irony of my collection is that there's been a prevailing wisdom of not buying non-ILC cameras because they're dead end - when the sensor is outdated you have to throw out the lens too when you upgrade. However, look at what has happened to my ILC systems. Neither (Nikon 1 and Samsung NX) are officially dead, but both sure have the appearances of being discontinued by their respective manufacturers. Guess what I think of the prevailing wisdom now. However, I have managed to pick up some great additions to both systems in clearance sales...

For 20 years I was using great Canon glass on a 20 year Canon EOS Rebel. When the body died in early 2015, naturally I researched upgrading to Canon. But during my research, I quickly learned that ALL the REAL 'body' innovation was in the Mirror-less space; Canon and Nikon, the incumbents, seem to still be happy keeping their old embedded platforms i.e. CPUs, Hardware, firmware, all 10 years outdated.

Being a Best-Buy Elite member (45 day return policy) , I bought and returned Canon 7d Mark-11, Canon 6D (their bottom line FF), Nikon 850 (another FF). I used each for 40 days and returned it.

Then I bought the NX1 and never looked back. I thoroughly understood the risks. So, yes, I'm very sad, but in no way am I upset with Samsung. I purchased a fantastic system, and will continue to invest into it. [FWIW: bought all NX gear at Adorama and B&H, 2 day free shipping, reward points, zero sales tax (nice 6% savings) ]

SO, last week I bought Samsung's 50-200 for $199 at B&H.
I COULD HAVE bought a used Canon EOS Rebel body for the same price!
For my needs there's no way I'm going back to Canon's APS-C, FF bodies; For me, their system is too big, too heavy, too expensive.

My NX1 body and NX glass (and Samyang, Rokinon) is so perfect for me.
Thank you Samsung for your Price, Performance, and Features. Just need one little favor, please MAKE MORE ONE DAY.

I am using my new LG smartphone and then a new LG TV. No more Samsung Anything.

I have no anger, I am just being smart, you know "Fool me once, Fool me twice".

As for the near term future I.bought the L16 Computational Aperture Camera. Delivery is now Early 2017. I will be walking around with a 28-150 mm 1.4, 52 MP, Noise free camera in my shirt pocket. This new approach to photography may be why Samsung left the camera business or maybe not. I don't care as I am riding the wave of this new technology.

I use my NX1 daily and it has turned me into a 4K Still Grab photographer. I always shoot with an identical back up camera but not with the NX1 due to Samsung's departure after I bought my NX1.

I believe buying NX gear new or used is a foolish thing to spend one's money on.

I will also buy the new Chinese Hover Camera for my personal photography.

Would I sell my NX1? No. It is the best camera that i have ever used on all levels of functionality and output imo.

Would I ever buy Samsung again? No, unless they come out with an NX2 with a Ten Year Full Warranty.

Thanks for your question.

Thanks for making the poll.

My position is in the middle of answer one and four.  I have to much samsung lenses and I do not sell, so i am still mostly using Samsung. But I will not buy more Samsung lenses.

Perhaps in the next poll you can offer more grades of answers. I assume dpreview still does not offer multiple choice.

I'm holding on to the nx1 and don't plan on changing any time soon. I can't deny I wasn't disappointed when I heard samsung were leaving the camera market, but actually it hasn't affected me whatsoever. I'm more than happy with the nx1 and have even added to my lens collection after the news.

I look after my stuff anyway but I'm confident it won't be too difficult to find replacements should anything break or go wrong.

I'm not angry with samsung and would happily buy any of their products again if they are the right price and meet my needs.

Can't see the sense in chopping off my nose to spite my face.

I was following the first reviews of the X-T2, thinking that in several years this could be an alternative for the NX1. 2 German press reporter gave a good first review for the X-T2. Maybe it is due too a preproduction firmware.

On the other side, I hope my NX1 will life many more years.:-D

Where did you get to try it, if I may ask? I've been interested in looking at the X-T2, but it is still pre-order only everywhere online, let alone in brick and mortars...

Using my Olympus....it still makes me smile when I think of the abuse I got here for mentioning the demise of Samsung cameras all those months ago, how stupid I was to believe the idiots in Park Cameras, Jessops,Currys etc who were telling me lies about it. The worst of it from one at the top! Shame though, nice cameras but no support.

I've been driving my 2000 Toyota Sienna for a while now.  Feel no need to change for a newer model, as all my needs are met.

Feel the same way about the Samsung NX1.... beautiful images and video. The lenses I have  cover most needs.

If I had to do night shoots I'd probably rent an a6300 or something like that, but there aren't any such assignments.

By the time the NX1 gives up the ghost there will be much better cameras than the a6300 anyway.

However, if my NX1 and lenses suddenly fell into the ocean then I'd consider the a6300, or the new Panasonic Gh5.

I think when people panic they make lousy decisions.  Those who are dumping the NX1 are doing it out of fear.

I'm looking to expand as much as I can on my nx gear.   This is the first real camera (non point and shoot) that I have owned and absolutely love it.  I am hoping to get an nx500, 50-150mm, 85mm, and 12-24mm lens.

If other companies were smart, one of them would make a fully functioning adapter for the nx mount.   The first brand to create a smart adapter will get both my current lens business and future business when my nx1 no longer works.

Re: So what are you doing now that Samsung has...

The NX500 has come alive for me since its apparent death.
1) I managed to swap my 20mm lens for the 10mm one, I am now able to use the 4k mode for video recording in most applications at a sensible focal length.
2) The bit rate hack now means my videos are over 150 MBPS.
Ok, its still 8 bit, but we're still some time away from affordable next level video in cameras like this, this is likely good enough to keep up with the rx100 MK4 & A6300.
The photo quality is good enough for most, + the 28 Megapixels is going to be an enviable megapixel rating in years to come.
Honestly, its still a very good camera which I can't see myself replacing until 10 bit pro res becomes the video norm, as you guessed, I use my cameras as much for video as I do photos.
I'll probably buy the 18-200mm lens too to go with my 10 & 30.

Re: So what are you doing now that Samsung has...

Sort of answer1 samsung gear is all I have but I am going to stay with what I have for a good fee years before moving up to medium format. The way I see it my Samsung gives me images as good as full frame it's not a big enough jump and with the new hasslebrand just come out ,with the rumour of Fuji bringing one out as well . If they do then Sony will have to respond and hopefully cankon this will drive down the price of the 645z which is my target camera. Of course with my luck this will come to nothing and I carry on with what I have and move up to a Sony when the time comes .

Sold NX500 and all lenses, but for some reason (I can't explain why) I kept my NX mini and all its lenses.

Hard to believe Samsung left the market, but lets face it, they didn't market it aggressively enough

Just in case you missed the old news, the 18-200 is hella soft for photos.  It's nice for video, but for photos it is a no go for me past about 35mm.  It is the only NX lens I own that I do not find at all satisfying.  And honestly, I knew that before I bought it but... I donno, I guess I just felt a need to try it firsthand.

I got nx1 knowing samsung abandoned the nx line. The deal was really good IMO. 16-50mm s lens kit with all the accessories and vertical grip in great condition barely used for a bit under $1500. I wanted to do a bit of photos and video (70% video). I am just starting to get more serious about the hobby and was using point and shoot before so not invested in lenses. I just don’t see any company taking commanding lead in hybrid cameras to decide on a brand. Seems like sony and panasonic both are going at it but both have major pitfalls atm. Have to see if gh5 becomes what everyone wants but I doubt their focus system will evolve that fast to rival sony. Even if it does the body will most likely be well above $1500 without lens. I figure 3-5 years from now I can make the decision then. Also lots of small retailers are now selling non s lenses for half the retail price. So samsung lenses are actually cheaper then sony or panasonic. I just plan to start with 12-24, 50-200, and the 16-50 s lens I already have as my main lens.
