Incoming: EF-S 15-85 to use on an 80D

Should get it Monday. Considered 17-55 f2.8, but I like the wide zoom. I have 18-135 (seems big and long), 10-18 (great ) and 24mm STM (like it!).

Nice! You'll have fun with it.

I would probably suggest getting rid of your 18-135, it'll be overlapping your 15-85 (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), but you find it big.

I would sell it, and put that money towards a good prime that you like.

Thanks, a good idea. Where do people sell their lenses? Ebay? Craigslist? I find that I get a haircut when I trade it in at camera retailers. I do find them more trustworthy than Joe off the internet, though.

I use Craigslist. And price reasonable to what the local market rate seems to be, say $250-350.  Allow some latitude for negotiation, but ignore the low ballers.

Be mindful of the price you would get at B&H with little hassle. Includes free shipping to B&H. Assuming a condition 4 (Sign of use, but clean) , you can get $170 for the Canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS STM Lens.

Do consider the time and effort is work the extra money for selling directly to a third party.

+1 for Craigslist. I've sold many lenses locally (Atlanta) on Craigslist. If you price it reasonably it should move quickly. Just be patient....the buyers will come. A few things I always do when selling on CL:

  • Only accept cash
  • Put in the add that you'll only respond to people who leave a phone number...and stick to this!
  • Put in the add that you'll meet in a safe public place (i.e. Like your bank....or a busy Starbucks).
  • I always price it reasonably and state in the add that price is firm.  Then, I just ignore responders trying to work me down on price.

I've never gasped an issue selling a lens on FB this way!

When I added a 6D /24-105L, & 16-35L to go with my 7D-2, I sold most of my "S" lenses, including a 10-22.

I kept only one APS-C/ S lens, & that is the 15-85. It's a superlative lens--- I'm sure you won't regret your choice!

I have the 15-85 and the 18-135 STM for my 70D but I always use the 15-85 - the results always just seem better from my very subjective perspective.  I just used it extensively on a 3-week trip to the Galapagos and I am really happy with the results.  This lens is on my camera over 90% of the time.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Really like my 15-85 and 17-55 USM, the former being used more often -- rather slow, but sharp sharp sharp. Not too hot about 18-55 and 18-135 STM.

BTW, the 55-250 STM is awesome for its relatively low price.

1 just hang on to it

2 replace it with a 55-250 STM.

3 enjoy your 15-85, I love mine , I use it MORE than my 17-55.
