Going north ...

..but, not too far (north of France) were we spent 2 weeks holidays in Sainte Cécile plage along the Manche (English channel).

Here are the first two picts from the area shot in Wimereux, at the beach (Dynax 7D & Minolta 24-85)

The beach

Wimereux beach

As you can see there is not room left on the sand when high tide (not full here) so the beach huts (?) are on the dyke (I found three words for the french "digue", dyke dike or dam, let me know please which on is the best in this case )

Much better view from the sand at low tide . We have to go back

Two of the painted beach huts

Wimereux beach

More next week, all the best, Michel.

Re: Going north ...

Nice view of the sea front .
It looks very much like one of our (Queen) Victorian seaside resorts .
I guess at the time the same style was in favour in many parts of the world .
.
The area in front of the sea that the houses (B&B's) and beach huts are on would be called the Promenade in England .

You said it neilt3 going back in my books (those of the wife to say the truth), I discovered that Wimereux is built mainly in the "Anglo Normand" style, and the area is called "Digue-promenade", by the way Wimereux is also so called "Nice du nord".

I have to improve my french too !

All the best, Michel.

Although I'm not into foreign language's , much of the English language and culture has evolved  over hundreds of years influenced by the influx of Europeans either as invading forces from the Romans , Angles , Saxon's , Normans etc to more recent refuges from wars or political oppression .

So a lot of things are familiar , if not the same , be it architecture , language or food .

So...I'm more into food , don't know the name of the meal , but I know what I like !

.

Look forward to seeing more pictures .

Regards , Neil .
