Panasonic 14 to 140 lens

Can the OIS anti shake be turned off in this lens

From past Digital cameras that I owned  it was best to turn it off when shooting from a tripod.

Thanks for reading this....Jeff

There's a switch on the lens, to turn stabilisation on and off.

If you have IBIS, such as on my GX80, then the switch turns off both lens and body stabilisation at the same time.

The GH4 has no in-body stabilization, it relies on lens OIS (or Steadicam rigs or whatever).

If you want 4k with in-body stabilization, your current best bet is the GX80/85. I think that many are expecting the GH5 to have full-time IBIS in video also, but this is still an unknown. One of the design challenges is to combine fast readout for high bit-rate video (which makes the sensor run hot) with a heat-sinking method that is compatible with sensor-shift stabilization.

In Body Image Stabilization of Panny bodies

So far there are IBIS for 3 panny bodies only.

A primitive IBIS for GX7, better IBIS in GX8 & Dual IS for compatible OIS lenses (not support video) and GX85 (support video & Dual IS for compatible OIS lenses).

Re: Panasonic 14 to 140 lens

Your lens has an On/Off switch under the "O.I.S." label. That turns image stabilization on and off.

Re: Panasonic 14 to 140 lens

Thanks Joel. That is excellent information and to avoid overheating in video clips they didn't use sensor shift in GH4 unlimited video clips but now they may have the technology (maybe) .That is great but I would still pick the GH4...Thanks...Jeff

Thanks....Jeff

I bought grey market imported bodies (GX7 and GX85, not own GX8) and not sure which legal requirement of country that it should be confined to. The downloaded Operating Manual does not represent the particular model of my camera.

According to GX85, IBIS ofwhich support video, under a 32Gb SD card it showed:

1) AVCHD HD 25p = 2 hr 54 min

2) MP4 HD 25p = 27min 9 sec

3) MP4 4K 25p = 41 min 34 sec.

So on hardware wise I suppose GX85 could go beyond the 30 min European restriction.

My older GX7, IBIS of which does not support video, under a 32Gb SD, in video mode it showed:

1) AVCHD HD 25p = 29 min 59 Sec

2) MP4 HD 25p = 27 min 11 sec

I suppose my GX7 might be something originally for European market.

Re: In Body Image Stabilization of Panny bodies

Thanks again alcelc for your input I hope your setup works to your satisfaction. I started to order a GH4 from Amazon and the price was very low at 1000$ and 1400+ from BH at no point after alot of research and many phone calls I could not find out if this was the Euro version but anyway they removed the AD the next day so I went to Ebay and they had the same cheap price 1000$ but specified it was the Intl version

Its good that folks understand that just because Amazon has the item but their supplier can con you with the old Bait and Switch.

Be well and thanks for the information...Jeff

GX85 has 29min59s limits on video clips, for both 1080 and 4k.

However - with 4k (at least according to what I understood from the manual) when it hits the 29m59s mark, it still carries on recording, it just begins a new file and continues. So you can then easily splice the files together later using the editing software of your choice.

I think it also does something with certain file types when they hit a 4gb limit... can't remember. It's all in the online manual anyway.
