Front/Backfocussing Canon 450D

Hey guys,

I've been testing the AF system of the 450D with 70-200 f4, so I printed out an AF testcard mounted the camera on a steady tripod (switched IS off) and focussed on the high contrast target of the card.

So Stook a few shots at 200, 135 and 70mm, first at the minimal focus distance (1.20 meters) then at 3-5 meters. I imported the pictures in LR and there were some that were not even sharp anywhere the card, they were quite soft, others were front and back focussed ( I took the exact same picture twice @70mm and just refocussed and the first pic was back focussed, the second was front focussed), and some pictures were frontfoccussed when shot horizontally and sharp after refocusing and shot in portrait orientation.

I took my time to do this test and I'm sure I did everything right technique-wise, but I'd really appreciate any help!

PS: does anyone know how I can get the shutter count of my 450D (I don't have a USB cable to connect it to a computer)?

Re: Front/Backfocussing Canon 450D

There is some normal variability, but in every image I see the subject in sharp focus so I don't see a problem.
