Sharper yes, better, that is a different question. - I have a old Minolta lens that, though not very sharp, just has a beautiful rendering and is my favorite lens for colorful motives.

However, I would have hoped for a F1,4 wide angle, somewhere between 14 and 18 mm. It would have been better for M43 where we still don't have an outstanding fast lens (the PL 1,4/12 is too wide for me).

And even for Sony E crop sensor cameras it would seem better: they have some good and fast 32-35mm lenses, but only one huge and expensive fast WA.

A 1,4/50-60mm lens also would have been more useful for me, the optically excellent 2,8/60 just is too slow (and also no macro lens to make up for slow speed).

Yeah, but that record resolution is at f5.6,  It's pretty weak at f1.4, and f1.4 is why most people are buying the lens.  Their kit zoom does f5.6 already.

True, but even at f2, it's still quite good, and that does beat a kit lens.

But at F1,4 and F2 it is better than the PL 1,4/25.

And at F4-5,6 it is better than all other M43 lenses they tested at any aperture.

So, the Sigma has slightly worse center sharpness, but significantly better corner sharpness at 1.4 (not surprising given it is an APS-C lens). At 2.0, the Sigma has slightly better center sharpness to go with it's superior corner sharpness.

Very impressive performance, considering the 25/1.4 is a rather good lens in its own right and that the Sigma retails for about half the price. I won't be trading my PL though, don't want the extra size or narrow FOV.

Looks like the Sigma 30/1.4 performs very similarly to 42.5/1.2 as well: http://www.lenstip.com/394.4-Lens_review-Panasonic_Leica_DG_Nocticron_42.5_mm_f_1.2_Asph._P.O.I.S._Image_resolution.html
