G7 lens hard decision

Hello there guys. Hope you're having a nice time!

So i'm considering buing some prime lens for videomaking, i'm planning to shot some short movies and also shot my vlog with it. I like to shot my vlog handheld, pointing camera at my stupid face, so here comes the question:
Will i be able to do such shots with 42.5mm 1.7 super OIS panasonic lens?
Or is it better for me to take on 30mm 2.8 megaOIS ?
And by the way, does stabilization really matter or i can just post-stabilize the video?

I would guess that the 42.5 will be a bit long at arm's length assuming you want your whole face in the shot.

That would probably work better.

Handheld, yes. It's better to get stabilization at capture so you get the full resolution of the sensor. Stabilizing in post cuts off the edges of the frame (scaling), and the worse your shake the more needs to be cut off, degrading the footage further.

I think even 30mm, effectively 60mm, might also be too long. I'd certainly check it out before buying. If you have a kit zoom lens, try it first to establish the focal length that works.

stable

you want to get a stabilzed lens for video shooting.

I would have to know what you are doing in your space to give you a focal length.

I can't get a selfie of my wife and me with a 30mm.

You'll want a really wide angle to show off where you are and whats going on. Otherwise you could just be in your house shooting the video if its just your face. Check out the gopro videos produced by the Gopro company.

Stabilization is really nice. Just remember to set the appropriate setting when panning side to side or up and down... It may get jittery if you leave all of the stabilizing axises on.

A cheap panasonic 14-42 mega o.i.s verion 2 would be your best bet, its a great lens for video since its really wide and stabilized. If you've got big bux theres the 12-35 or 40 pro 2.8

Video does't really require a sharp prime unless you are going to project tbem on the side of a building as HD is 2mp and 4k is only 8mp. Typical viewing distance is 2-3 times the width of the screen, and computer monitors dont need super sharp videos. Also that close you probably wont want thst much detain of your face. No offense, just people usually want softer image when they see themselves in super hi-res.
