Wholesale peanuts at Kokopo market
2

After the "Coconut Palm dawn", I pottered up to the market to get some raw peanuts for the kids -- they luv 'em.

The first wholesale peanuts of the day were arriving and being snapped up by retail vendors or "ol maket meri" (market women).

Growers tie the peanuts into handy bundles which will sell for K1 (1 kina = US30¢) at retail, then bundle them up into lots of 20 which they sell to the retailers for K10. The retailers make 100% profit.

And having talked about market women, my photograph shows a bunch of daggy blokes. Oh well! I bought a K10 bundle like the one in the hand here, for the kids. GX7+45-150, vivid mode, AWB, OOC JPEG.

Thanks for giving a bit of life to this forum which has become rather dull of late with these posts of and interesting place that I expect I will never see for real.

The kids are in 50% agreement with you, jack -- they think the photo is  bit ordinary (because none of them and no-one they know is in it) but voted the peanuts a jolly good purchase.

They are a good crop. I didn't like them much raw at first, I thought they tasted somewhere between bland and earthy, but now I will buy a kina's worth and munch along with the best of them. They are a solid snack. They also come boiled (still in the shells and bunches as you see here) which I don't like so much; they are a bit soft; and "fire", in which case they are sold in small red plastic bags after having been roasted/fried -- still in the shells. They are cunchy and I like them too.

Thank you for your information.

But, 6 peanuts = 1 spoon of oil.... not good for an over weighted me

…and your total intake. The oil content is why I called them a "solid snack" -- a smallish amount eaten slowly (and that is the only way you can eat them out of the shell) keeps you satisfied and well fuelled longer than a bunch of processed food sugary snacks which might also have a high oil content. And, of course, there is the total  intake to consider -- that's what really matters (I speak from somewhat "unlean" experience -- one of the reasons I go on these walking tours in the morning). :\
