Is ImageBrowser EX completely gone now!?

Hello

I used to have ZoomBrowser EX and then, I think, ImageBrowser EX on my computer, but I got a new computer some time ago, and upgraded it to Windows 10. I hadn't used my camera for such a long time, what with the convenience of cellphone and iPad cameras, that I haven't got around to looking for a later version for my new computer, but I did download Irfanview. I'm looking for something with which to compress my photos though, and Irfanview doesn't seem to have anything included. On the Canon website they only have some very basic importing software called Camera Window. Even Picasa seems to have been replaced by Google Photo, or something to that effect, without any compression faciltities... Or am I just overlooking it?? Do I really have to look for yet another piece of software just for compressing images, and if so, what are you using?? TIA.

If you go back to the Canon support page and manually select something like Windows 7, it brings back the older software. Could be worth a try to see if this still works under W10 - but at your own risk!

I could do that, I guess... But I'm not going to like it!

It might work in compatibility mode, but from what I've heard and the little that I've used it myself, Win10 is much less backwards compatible than previous versions.

I've been using ZoomBrowser Ex on W10 without any single problem.

ImageBrowser Ex is horrible SW.

That's good to know, thank you very much, I'll definitely give it a try as well then! Can't even remember which one I was using last, to be honest...

I have to agree about Image Browser.  I much preferred the older Zoom Browser; but it will not run on Windows 7 or 8.1.  The old PC running XP died and a lot of old favorites just will not run.

On my Win10 the good old Zoombrowser runs without a problem.

Re: Is ImageBrowser EX completely gone now!?

I was away for the weekend, but finally managed to download it on Sunday night and install it last night, thank you very much for the heads up! It does indeed run very well on Win10 and ALL the photos on my computer were immediately upon reboot recognised as images and incorporated into the program. The only disadvantage for me at the moment is that it doesn't seem to have a resize smaller than 800x640, and I uploaded a number of photos to WhatsApp last night, which I'm sure wouldn't notice the difference in quality, but would probably benefit from the speedier upload of a smaller size image. Never thought I'd have a problem with that and it's no biggie anyway... Thanks again!

You might like the freeware program called FastStone Image Viewer. I have used it for years, and I love it.

http://www.faststone.org/

I'm not aware of any advantages the ImageBrowser et al have over FastStone. FastStone works easily enough, and can do quite a bit of good editing if you want. I don't personally like modifying things as much as Photoshop users do.

DPP would work well at downsizing your images. You can choose just about any final resolution you want and modify the JPEG compression too. The newer DPP 4.x will also do all of this but comes with a steeper learning curve.

Good luck.

In Zoombrowser you can get it smaller. (I'll recheck size on the PC) When you choose email on the left side you can setup the size when you choose "email" and also name/create a folder where you want it to go after it resizes the pic.

I had the same problems with Image Browser Ex on Win10. I haven't had a lot of luck with FastStone and doing Batch Conversion of CR2 Raw images. I tried a batch tonight and it decimated all of them. I haven't researched much into it, as what I was trying to do should have been straight forward. I've played with settings trying to get it behave, but I have had no luck.

I generally find myself needing to import my images into Photoshop and save them to get the results I want, but that can be tedious. I don't do a lot of editing, but spend more time with the camera import tool, then maybe some additional lighting touch up and noise reduction.

I'll have to see if I can put the old Zoom Browser on.

If you are shooting raw, Canon's Digital Photo Professional will do a much better job batch converting CR2 files than Faststone Image Viewer. The latest version 4.6.30 can be dowloaded from here http://support-th.canon-asia.com/contents/TH/EN/0200526902.html

Canon have produced some rather good video tutorials to help us understand DPP4, they can be viewed here http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/product/canon_software/dpp_video_tutorials.do

FYI only, I loaded and am using MS Word 2000 on my Windows 10 Home laptop (I was using LibreOffice but couldn't use all the commands that I used on Word for years and didn't want to learn new ones). I can't recall if I told Win 10 to run Word2000 in compatible mode.

Whenever I decide to try new software (or old software that would be new on my computer), I always set a restore point in case something goes wrong or I don't like the software after all. Currently to look at pictures I am using MS Paint (gasp!) for minor editing (mostly cropping), but I also have the downloadable Windows 7 version of PhotoScape (because I haven't signed up for the Windows Store to get the Win 10 version of that). PhotoScape has some interesting abilities, including that it is free.

Re: Is ImageBrowser EX completely gone now!?

Thanks for the FastStone referral, I just installed it and love it so far. Wish I'd found it before I bought ACDSee Ultimate, which I then gave up on. (Problem with ACDSee for me is it works in "modes", so if you want to work primarily in Manage mode it takes 3 or 4 seconds every time to view an image while it switches to & loads View mode and then displays the image).

Me too. Had to finally move on though 'cos it doesn't handle .png or video files. And it only got me through about 25 years!

Re: Is ImageBrowser EX completely gone now!?

Perhaps both Zoom Browser and Image Browser have disappeared. I bought Canon EOS 90D last week. My Zoom Browser 6.7.0.24 does not support the RAW files (CR3) of this camera.

Searching google; could not find anything! Any ideas?

At present I open the RAW files in DPP ver 4.12.20.3 and FastStone. But an updated Zoom Browser would have been better.
