which lens should I buy for my NX300?

I have an nx300 that I have been playing with for a few months. I currently have the standard 20-50mm and the 30mm f2.0 which is a fun lens.

Suppose I have $400 burning a hole in my pocket and there isn't a canon lens I want in that price range. Which Samsung lens should I buy? It does not have to be exactly $400, but realistically I wont spend more than $500 on a lens for this system. What are your thoughts? Should I even bother buying more into the system?

Also I know this will come up. What do I shoot? Anything. I enjoy macro. I enjoy birding. I enjoy chasing my kids around a zoo and using the lens in low light situations. I have a Canon that I use for wide angle and portrait shooting when I take them.

Unfortunately the 50-150 is THE lens for long range (birding and zoo). The 50-200 is still quite good though, but nothing Samsung has out really has the range to make birding easy. If you can find the macro in your price range (and from what I hear this isn't too unlikely) I would go for that.

Only if you find something useful at a fire sale price.

Otherwise, no. It's an orphaned system. Unless e.g. Nikon or Ricoh steps in and adopts the NX mount, whatever lens you buy will be a paperweight if/when you decide to upgrade a few years from now.

From what I have read the 18-200 is not good.
Get the 50-200 for zoom, very cheap and good reviews on that one.

I love NX300 with the 30mm, such an excellent combo! With your budget, you could buy for 400$ (at least that were the prices a couple of days ago that I looked) both the 50-200 AND the 45mm! Go check, as most of these lenses (the 16-50S is gone), are gone, and gone for good!

The 45 will become your favourite lens, super fast AF, perfect for indoors portraits and kids in general (short tele), and the 50-200 is always amaze me (especially between 50-150, 60-160, something like that, kind of soft at the very long end, but is currently a 199$ lens, brand new, with warranty and everything).

This was going to be my suggestion as well, I recently got the 50-200mm for my NX300 and it does well when I need a little bit of reach.  It's a little dark if you're indoors but the OIS works pretty well.  My camera came with the 45mm 3D lens and I sold it in favor of the 30mm to get a pocketable package, but now that prices have come down a little I would like to get a 45mm again.

Spend your $400 on these two and be happy and take lots of pictures.  Now if only all decisions in life were this easy!

Exactly! B&H prices are very low, wish I was living in the states sometimes (not, most of the times!).

Hello! I just joined this site and stumbled across this little questionaire.

I have a NX300M and my lenses are the 18-55mm, 16mm wide pancake and the 50-200mm.

I also bought a lens-extension from eBay for 20$ to shoot macros and I have used it with the 50-200mm lens. The results are amazing. Equally good as the ones my brother shoots with his Nikon D5500 and a proper macro lens.
I highly recommend trying that option, as the lens extension also extends the connectors from the camera to the lens, so AF works with it too

Hopefully I made sense and this helped!
