12-40 + 40-150 F2.8 Lens Caps + Filters

The only polarizing filter I own happens to be a 67mm one; right in the middle of the Olympus 12-40 f2.8's 62mm filter ring and the 40-150 f2.8's 72mm filter ring. The difference in lens cap styles is also a minor annoyance. The 40-150mm has a nice cap that can be removed by pinching either the inside or outside of the cap, but the 12-40mm only can be removed by inner-pinching. I picked up a couple cheap stepper rings (72->67 + 62->67) and 67mm lens caps and now I can use the filter on both of my lenses and they share  common lens cap size.

I cannot see any vignetting on either lens with the stepper rings on, and even with my thick polarizing filter stacked on top there is none.

The step up ring does prevent you from using the hood on the 12-40mm, but I never found that hood particularly effective and rarely have flare problems without it. Not sure if it's worthwhile if you don't already have a 67mm filter that you want to use, but I couldn't be happier with this little modification.

Cheers,

Joshua
