My new EM10

One of my challenges as a semi proficient camera user has been to find out how much improvement I'll get when I get a new camera. Case in point - I used an Olympus PEN E-PM2 for the last couple of years. I'd read many reviews stating that picture quality should be on a par with the OMD series because the sensor was the same and I could use the same lenses. I just got an EM10 and my reason for getting it was built in wifi, a built in electronic viewfinder, and more knobs for quicker adjustments. What I didn't expect was how much better my low light pictures are. I can use higher ISOs with good results and although I can't do objective testing since I sold the E-PM2, the EM10 just seems to take better pictures. It must be the more advanced processor. Anyway, for all you who are thinking about upgrading, the EM10 does outperform the E-PM2.

Re: My new EM10

Possibly the things at work.......

  1. Some evolutionary difference due to a later version(?) of the same 16MP sensor.
  2. The change from Truepic VI to Truepic VII image processing chip.
  3. The better IBIS.
  4. The availability of 0 second anti-shock.

Number 3 and 4 not so much affecting low light performance, but allow more freedom with shutter speeds.

Regards....... Guy
