How about B&W ?

I love B+W, but prefer to convert color into B+W. It is nice to have both options. I prefer to work with a capture that I can use either way.

Incidentally, this whole issue of Leica colors is much ado about nothing. I am perfectly satisfied and very happy with Fuji color. I just was curious.

It's hard to envision just what you see and what another person might see. If there was some sort of color plate that serves as a standard. Then you could describe relative to that standard what is "off" color-wise  for you.

You could do a Google search to see if there is such a thing. Otherwise, trying to give you feedback is just too much of a hit or miss hunt.

Some of the rich deep color tone comes from Leica's unique lenses. If you watch a video on their lens design and engineering you'll get why they are peerless. It's like Porsche says about their cars, "Accept no substitute.". I played with a Q at the local pro shop's bi-annual open house. The Leica rep just happened to have one with him and said the demand was through the roof and that's why it's so hard to find one. I was tempted to pick up the only one they had in stock but for a single focal length $4250+tax is too rich for me. I'll stick with my paltry X70!

Fuji is said to bend red and green toward yellow. So, do you know Leica colors when you see them? If you do, get Picture Window Pro (on 30-day free trial if you wish), load a Fuji JPG, and apply this color transformation:

Re: How to replicate Leica colors in Fuji?

First roll of film I took on my Leica R camera with a 50mm Leica lens really impressed me. Sharp and great colors. It was noticeable.

I still have that lens. I mounted it on the FUJI E-1 and the sharpness and color were OK. But I noticed that when I used the 35mm Fuji or the 56mm FUJI that the colors were rich and the pictures  sharp. I big improvement on the Leica lens mounted on the Fuji. It reminded me of the first time I used my old Leica.

Don't sell FUJI short - their lenses are phenomenal. Depending on the lens, I doubt Leica could do any better in color and sharpness.

I handled a Q when it first came out at the local camera store which is also a Leica store.  I captured some images and posted on Flickr.  The images were just of the parking lot and store.  I guess there is a lot of interest in the Q because the 3 images seem to average about 50+ hits per day and have total hits exceeding 12k each.  If I ever won the lotto, the second thing I would buy would be a Q (the first being a Bentley-you do need a really nice car to drive your Leica around).

The Q is a fabulous camera, especially when the side grip is in place.  It feels like it is a pure extension of your hand.  However, the cost is a bit prohibitive.

What exactly are Leica colors, and what makes them desirable?

Leica colors cost 7 times more and are therefore 7 times better. Proof:

Fuji X100T SOOC RAW export from LR CC no PP

Leica M240 35mm f2 ASPH SOOC RAW export from LR CC no PP

Fuji X100T SOOC RAW export from LR CC no PP

Leica M240 35mm f2 ASPH SOOC RAW export from LR CC no PP

So now you know

Apologies on file sizes. I didn't realize that LR holds different export profiles for different cameras. As this is only about colors I won't re-upload them at equal export resolution settings.

FYI the color differences are indistinguishable with minimal white balance adjustments.

Oh dear! I like the Leica colors better, even after your corrections

I was wondering if anyone has come up with a formula in Fuji that seems close to Leica colors.

Assuming you're shooting JPG and mean the traditionally warmer color of Leica lenses compared to Zeiss or most Japanese glass... why don't you play with custom white balance?  Jog it a bit toward red & yellow and see how you like the result.  I find that a single step each way makes a slight difference that I like.

Re: How to replicate Leica colors in Fuji?

I ‘ve read and think it has to do with the lenses (and sensors of course; Kodak and recent Cmos). Lenses made on 60s 70s and even earlier …

But more important… if we want that leica look, that mojo, that old style look, we need to learn from guys who used leica on the old times. Guys like HCBresson,  Meyerowitz, among others … the Masters, learn from them, and then, we who use Fujifilm or other brands must concentrate in making photos, taking time to shoot, be patient, focus in our subject, know him/her/it… put eye, brain and heart in the picture, be responsible for everything in our frame, follow the rules and break them. Then, and only then we will get that Leica look, or may be better… the Fujifilm look … who knows…. At least we will get a beautiful picture, a memory, a picture that will produce a reaction in the viewer, something to remember.
Cheers!!
