A quick shots with the FA* 85mm at f1.4

Girl with iPhone and Victoria's Secret shopping.

Not too bad - love the bokeh.

Cheers

Looks very good. Is -7 exposure compensation your standard setting?

These images are killing me. Must resist.....

I would love to see 43 and 77 limited shots on the K1.

The good film era Pentax lenses are holding up extremely well to the 36mp Sony from what I can see.

Winner, winner chicken dinner, and at the buffet price to boot.

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Chris,

The gorgeous lady caught my eyes - have the K-1 and the FA 85mm lens in hand - perfect subject to test the combo - I like the result.

Cheers

Hi Ray,

Pentax emptied my wallet - but what the heck, I am enjoying my photography.

Shall try out the 43 and 77 when opportunties arise.

Cheers

I guess we only live once (as far as we know) so we might as well enjoy life, yes?

I love the rendering of my 43, but it is an odd focal length on APS, so I do not use it much.

I look forward to some shots with those, and thanks again!

Ahh, a fellow drummer!

The 43 looks good, smooth bokeh and it seems quite sharp, although that is hard to know for sure on the smaller images here. The color seems a bit less rich than the 85 to my eye, but there could be many reasons for that.

Thanks!

Hi sfa 1966,

Great image quality eh?

How do you like the K-1?

After using the DFA* 70-200mm for a while all my other lenses feel so light especially the prime lenses.

Cheers

Hi Arijit,

The FA* 85mm was a gem in the film days and shines too in digital - glad I have the lens.

Hi Man Khun,

Thanks. Yes, your shots were very nice too.

Loving the K-1; beautiful machine. I've only tried out the FA43 and DA21 (in auto crop mode). No problems so far (except that I keep activating live view whenever I chimp!)

Yes. He's currently studying Jim Chapin's 70-year-old book "Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer", and making it look pretty easy!

Thank you. BTW, you can click on "View original size" under each picture. I didn't downsize them at all. Indeed (what might turn out to be a minor niggle with the K-1) they took absolutely ages to upload to DPR. They are straight OOC JPEGs, and could possibly use a little sharpening and contrast, but I am quite happy with them.

Thanks!

Ray

Re: K-1 with FA* 85mm

Hi Bruce. Thanks for posting these pics.  I shoot thousands of pics with my K5ii and K3 and my two computer monitors are a 65" hi def  Sharpe TV and a 49" Sharpe hi def  LCD  TV. When I check out pics on this site, I click on the get original and then hit the 100% zoom in to check the detail and sharpness.  I am learning just how short of depth of field the FF cameras have.  The first pic of the beautiful woman looking at her cell phone I find the only things in the photo that are in focus are her hair on the far side of her head in front of her face and the last word on the front of her bag. Vary hard to hit it at 80mm  2.8. .  The second pic almost everything in the picture is out of focus.  The last five pics with the 43mm have nothing in the pictures that is at all sharp.  When zoomed in the whole pic looks soft.  It looks the the lens is very soft. I have been looking at these for an hour now and can't figure out what is wrong.  I hate it when so many people post pictures to check out at 1.4 or F2 or 2.5 when the only things I can look at are one eye and half of a nose that are in focus. Just my thoughts. Hope to get a K1 in six months or so. Keep up the good work and smile while your are shooting because I know we both love taking pictures.

I have that same book!

He is learning his drumming the right way for sure.
