P Mode on PowerShot: Not possible to change aperture/exposure time?!

Hi all,

I am used to shooting on DSLR-cameras, where the P-Mode allows me to change the aperture/exposure-time ratio (by using the dial the aperture closes in the same degree as the exposure time is lengthened to ensure even brightness levels).

My question: On a powershot G16 is it possible, that the P-Mode does not HAVE this functionality? In other words: If the P Mode of the PowerShot G16 chooses an aperture/exposure time I am not happy with, can I still influence them in any way?

Thanks for your help!

Try  turning the Dial at the back - clockwise or Anti-clockwise..  !!

Yes it's possible. The function is  sometimes refered to as 'Program Shift'. You must assign AEL to a button. Then press this button and you can then shift with the dial.

I'd advise getting out of p mode it's basically an auto mode use a or s you'll learn more and get better results

Re: P Mode on PowerShot: Not possible to change aperture/exposure time?!

Should have explained better ...  Half-press the Shutter button to get exposure on the area required (green box shows steady)... then with the half-press and green box retained by the press.. then ALSO press the Star button. That sets the variable.... now with rotation of the rear wheel you can vary the settings via the extra screen box that comes on show.

On the G15 (I have) and G16 there's nothing wrong at all with use of the P mode - it will give you excellent shots with minimum of fuss AND you can get a quick shot very easily when any delay in making settings can easily lose 'that moment'
