Canon EOS Rebel D5 or Nikon D3200

I am looking at maybe purchasing a new camera. Have shot with an olympus E510 for 10 years.

There are some good package prices out there that come with the extra lens that I like. I've done some reading and find that the Canon is not as good as the t3.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on a new camera, but I have always wanted that 150-300 lense.

Does anyone recommend either of these two cameras?

Thanks.

Which Canon is not as good as the t3?

Which 150-300 lens?

Canon EOS Rebel t5 DSLR

Compared to Canon EOS Rebel t3

The review I read told me t5 was not a very good camera.

I would like to hear from someone how they feel their camera performs.  It looks like an excellent camera to me.

The T3 is not better than the T5. The TXi like T3i, T4i, T5i are better than the ones with i. The Canon EOS SL1 is smaller, but a very nice camera too.

Like I mentioned before, other bodies with the "i" in the name or the SL1 are better choices.

The Canon EF 75-300mm lens is not a very good choice at all.

The two screw on lenses are crappy items not really worth any consideration.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T5 or Nikon D3200

They are right. Stay away from the Canon Rebels like the T3 and T5 (without the "i") if you can afford the better cameras. The Canon T5 (1200D) is cheaper but it's doesn't have dust sensor protection (and many other things). Also don't get the Canon 75-300mm lens is my recommendation also. Get the Canon 55-250mm STM instead for telephoto use, if you are wanting a quality lens that is reasonably priced.

I used the Olympus E-500 and E-510 cameras for about 4 years, and then purchased the Canon T2i (550D) camera in late 2011. It's a great upgrade. After that I bought more Canon cameras and Canon/Tamron lenses. I used to post a lot on OTF (Olympus Talk Forum) and the Olympus DSLR forum too.

Nikon makes great cameras too, but I don't know enough about them to give you an opinion of what is better. But I can say that if you find the right Canon DSLR camera with quality lenses, that I would expect that you would be very happy with them. If you find another Canon camera or lens combinations and need some additional help, please let us know. Check the Dpreview reviews too.

A little edit: I should have written what is generally good. The Canon T2i (550D) to the Canon T6i/T6s (750D/760D) and the Canon SL1 (100D) cameras are some of the better Rebels. The Canon 18-55mm IS lens and Canon 55-250mm IS lens are good kit lenses (both non-STM and STM) that were sold with those cameras.

Here's some of my recent photos that were taken with the Canon T2i/T3i (550D/600D) cameras, one that was taken indoors at ISO4000.

The photo of the heron was taken with my Tamron 150-600mm VC lens. The rest of them were taken with the older Canon 18-55mm IS or Canon 55-250mm IS kit lenses.

Re: Canon EOS Rebel T5 or Nikon D3200

Thank you all for your help.  Your  pics look great Digirame

I took the big step. Thank you everyone for your review. I found the Nikon D5200 with the Nikon 18-55 mm, Nikon 70-300, wide angle aux lens, and telephoto aux lens for $575. Plus other extras. I can't wait for something better then my Olympus e510.

My Samsung 5 phone camera does do a great job though.

I live the spring colors and flowers can't wait to have my new toy.

Will I be able to find someone here that has this camera? I haven't used this site for a long time

Congratulations on your upgrade.  The Nikon DX SLR Talk forum should be able to help you with any questions.

The cameras from all threee manufacturers operate very differently.  Just be sure to handle them in-person before committing.
