G7X at a indoor concert-Pics
5

Recently I took my G7X and ZS100 to a Pearl Jam concert.  The G7X's fast lense allowed much lower ISO, and the reach was more adequate than i thought it would be.  I was impressed with the focus (which at times has let me down, looking forward to the markii), but I thought it really did an outstanding job.  Below are a few pics from an outstanding performance.  Thanks Pearl Jam for putting on a incredible show.

Looks like it did a fine job.  Looks you had pretty good tickets also.

Nice job! For concerts and other low light venues where no large cameras are allowed, its tough to beat this lens/sensor combination.

I have to ask since you have both cameras and i've been considering both how would you compare them aside from the obvious (focal length and video).

I'm very curious how image quality on the ZS100 compares to the G7X

Hi Florida,

Please read this thread in the Panasonic forum where I summarize my opinion of the two cameras and post some examples from the ZS there.  Someone there asked me the same question and I'd rather direct you there than paste my opinion here. Thanks!

Re: G7X at a indoor concert-Pics

I am sure you would not to be able to take pictures at 1/400 using ISO 1600 with a ZS100 at 36.8mm in the same scenario. The ZS100 starts at f2.8 and ends at f5.9 so you would be creeping in to higher ISO or slower speeds. The G7X and the photographer seem to have done a very good job here. The answer is in the physics rather than the cameras. The issue would be if it might be better to get a smaller sensor longer reach camera to compliment your G7X if you were at the back of the hall. 250mm equivalent is not that long a reach. I wonder if a TZ80 would be a better compliment to the G7X covering a wider functionality. A more affordable combination also.

That's a good thought, maybe even a TZ50 with a G7XMII - Thanks

Thank you I read your comments and thoughts comparing and contrasting the two in the Panasonic thread. Useful commentary.

The comparison and your opinion was very useful.   Essentially the choice is between better OOC Jpegs with cleaner photos, vs getting more reach but needing to PP Raws to get decent photos.  At least that is how I interpreted your comments.

Those are some great shots! Gonna queue up some Pearl Jam now.

I have been impressed by the mk2. Here is a digital zoom shot of the moon. Was not expecting it to be remotely good...
