Canon 1200D problems

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone could help me... I own a Canon EOS 1200D and I have owned it for nearly two years now. It has been used at least once a week since I have bought it so it is well used and loved. I have always taken good care of it, never dropped it or damaged it in any way. I take photographs of a local rugby team. Yesterday when they had their weekly match my camera would not turn on, I thought maybe my battery had ran out of charge. I changed the battery to the spare that is always fully charged in my kit bag (both batteries are official canon ones) and put it in. The camera turned on for about two minutes before it just shut down again, this happened 3 times until it just would not turn on - it was acting as if there was no battery in the body whatsoever. when i got home i put both batteries on charge and when they had both fully charged (which took about ten minutes since they were not used) I put them back into my camera and it still wouldn't do anything. I have tried to see if the door for the batteries was faulty but that is perfectly fine. I am completely baffled as it was working perfectly on the weekend! Can someone help? I want to know if there is any point taking it to get looked at since that will alone cost about £50 or does it just need replacing as there is nothing to be done!

Re: Canon 1200D problems

If there is a camera shop or retail store that you do business with, maybe they would put in one of their batteries in, to see if that helps. You could give them the idea that you are considering buying a new camera or a new battery. The key is, if you are buying things from them, they sometimes will evaluate the camera for free if it only takes them a few minutes. It helps to have that second professional opinion.

If another charged up battery from someone else doesn't work, then you'll have to make the decision whether you want to have it repaired or want to upgrade (or even buy the same camera again or something else). If it were me, I would upgrade. I have three Canon T2i/T3i (550D/600D) cameras and if any of them breaks or is damaged, I'm upgrading. It's a good reason to get something better, as long as it's affordable and fits our budgets.

+1 good advice.

Best of luck luck.

Re: Canon 1200D problems

Sounds like weak battery to me.. Often a weak battery will indicate full voltage but when put under a load voltage drops dramatically..
The Canon® provided 1200D 7.4V LP-E10 battery packs have low 860mAh, 6.36Wh capacity. They are a fair battery made by Panasonic Energy (Wuxi) Co Ltd in China.
I prefer Wasabi Power 7.4V LP-E10 1600mAh, 11.8Wh battery packs whose cells are made in Japan final assembly in China often found on Amazon and ePay for about $9.50 US each. Empirical evidence indicates they last more than twice as long during shooting for me..  I seldom use Live View and turn off Display screen using DISP button saving on battery draw, as screen drains the most energy from batteries..
Hope a simple battery replacement will solve your problem.. Good Luck
