I have just bought the Samsung 50-150 for a great price but my excitement was slightly dampened after finding that F2.8 lens on APS-C is really equivalent to F4.2 full frame lens. Is this true?

What camera did you use before this NX one?

IF you used an FF one I can understand the DOF change but ....

Now that makes wonder if I made mistake by having the nx1 and two s lenses for wedding photography. I always knew FF gave better low light performance but never thought it was 2.25 times difference. I always thought the difference was mainly lower noise at high ISO.

If you go any lower than f/4.2ish on FF you'll never get two faces in focus in the same shot.

If you go any lower than f/2.8ish on APS-C you'll never get two faces in focus in the same shot.

At weddings, you usually have a couple of guests you want to be in focus.

That pair of NX S lenses should make a nice setup. Yeah... if you want a shot with only ONE of the bride's eyes in focus, then you'd want f/2 on APS-C or f/2.8 on FF. But I can't stand those super narrow DOF shots, anyway.

This is what I call the "5D effect", especially in video, after the 5Dii "revolution", shallow DOF considered to be an artistic necessity. Another black hole in reasoning and logic of the recent hipster's domination in western civilization.

For me, cameras such the NX1 are (or could be) the best hybrid cameras ever made, in every respect (including lenses).

And if you like that "one eye" situation, try a Canon FD 50mm/1.4, with all the focusing tricks of the new mirrorless cameras, keep just one eye in focus is quite easy to achieve. Why to do that, is another story.
