A $50 Wonder - Pentax-F 35-70mm

Bought a good one for about $50 on Ebay. It was just for fun and I didn't expect much from it. It turned out that it's the highest performance/price lens I've ever had. Compare with the 20-40mm limited zoom I have, it's slightly less sharp but not far off. The 20-40 does have an edge on the colour and micro-contrast but it's also more than 10 times the price. The 35-70 is light (a bit plasticky also), AF fast on my K3. It's also a FF lens, wondering how it would work on the K1.

Some sample photos:

First 3 f5.6 70mm, last one f5.6 35mm.

This lens was well regarded in it day. I suppose Pentax discontinued it because of the limited zoom range.

It was a companion to the SMC F 70-210 F4-5.6, also well regarded.

Yes, we would like to see how it performs on the K-1.

I agree. Don't forget that the F 35-70mm also has a handy close focusing ability. For the price, both the F 35-70 and F 70-210 deserve a place in every Pentaxian's camera bag (IMHO). They take up very little room and take very little out of your wallet, particularly for the quality of the images you get with them.

Seems ok for the price.. low contrast and sharpness. I can imagine you would get much better sharpness, color - IQ using the kit lens for the same composition.

I had this lens years ago and found that it performed very, very well. I think the looks and its plasticky field had me selling it way too early. It's a keeper. Don
