Do any other P&S cameras have Canon's "Movie Digest" mode?
2

I've had a few Canon point and shoot cameras over the past few years, and one of my favorite features has been "Movie Digest".

If you're not familiar, when this feature is enabled the camera will take a short video clip every time you take a photo. Then, at the end of the day, the camera compiles all of the individual movie clips into a single video montage. At the end of the day, you have all of the photos you've taken, plus a single long video montage as well.

I really love this feature, which is why I normally purchase Canon Powershot cameras. Currently I'm thinking about buying the Canon Powershot G9, but I'm also interested in checking out the new Sony, Panasonic, and Nikon P&S cameras too.

My question is: does anyone know if any other camera manufacturer other than Canon offer a similar feature to "Movie Digest"?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I guess you could say the IPhone's "live photo" feature is very similar, except without the compilation. I have a couple power shots with the movie digest mode but I've never used it, mostly because unless I'm wrong it forces you to shoot in auto mode with almost no control on settings.

You're correct - Movie Digest is definitely a consumer-focused special feature that forces you to shoot in auto mode. For things like family vacations I've found that the compilation at the end is really great, though the feature does drain the battery quite a bit.

I'm still in a tricky situation where I'm considering purchasing a camera that I'm not thrilled about just for this specific feature. I was wondering if a camera from Samsung (which allow you to download apps for your camera) could potentially provide another solution.

The new Panasonic point and shoot cameras (which come with 4K video capabilities) have really cool video features (like rack focus, post-capture focusing, etc), but as far as I know, Canon is the only manufacturer out there that has a feature like Movie Digest...

Hey, movie digest mode is not fully automatic, you can still aplay changes in all func. setting (iso, white balance, my colors, flash mode, under/over exposure,...). The bad thing is that the movie clips are just old tv 660x480 size. It would be funny to make a video  of a trip o another event with the clips and the stills inserted.

I’ve had a Canon Power Shot ELPH 330 HS for many years. I use Hybrid Auto Movie Digest feature to see how a touch was made on a fencer in a fencing match. I follow the two fencers play and when a touch is scored I take the picture. Now I can study what happened 4 seconds into the touch. I may edit the video in slow motion. I’m looking for a 4K cameras with, Hybrid Auto Movie Digest feature.

This is the exact question I’ve been looking for. It doesn’t look like there are any others…I’m on my third one after dropping my first two and they stopped working. I don’t use my camera as often anymore because using a phone is so convenient. I like that my iPhone takes the video with it but so wish it strung them together like the movie digest. Now I’m just at the point to buying new batteries because mine don’t hold a charge too long.

I’m going to Disney World in February with my family and want to use this camera to help capture the memories!

Have you found any since posting this question??
