First impression, Sigma 30mm 1.4, might be a bit soft wide open.

Preliminary,

JPG OOC at 1.4.  Focus point on logo in center of wheel.

F2.2 RAW exported from lightroom.

Sorry the images aren't directly comparable.  I was thinking the lens didn't have the update to fix distortion that Sigma has announced--the box does not have the yellow dot that was supposed to mark updated firmware.  However, the lens does have v1.1 which was released yesterday.

I'll have to experiment more before I can make any definite judgement.

No, I think it's OK after playing with it more.  Please disregard.

No.

please post more imagles, like distant trees etc. I am interested in how good this lens is.
The samples pubished by Sigma are, of course, excellent, even at F1,4 and even in the corners. But this hardly means anything.
And though the 30mm is not the FL I want, I hope they follow up with a 60mm.

Best I have at the moment, F4.5.  I'll try to get better samples this weekend.

Parking lot of LCS, Kenmore Camera. (They're Great, BTW!)

Here's a sequence at increasing Fstops. Focus is on the patch of small daisies at front center.  It does seem to be softer at 1.4.  All are OOC.

Bokeh goes on for DAYS.

Forgot the distant trees...

F1.4 image is slightly overexposed--hit max (electronic!) shutter speed!

This is very helpful!

Thanks a lot!

Yes, at F1,4 the centre is softer than at F2 and it still improves at F4, when it seem to be very good. This is normal for a fast lens, off center even the famous Nocticron seems to be softer wide open, the Pana Leica 1,4/25mm also shows this performance.

The borders are rather soft at F1,4 (more so on the right side?), but they sharpen up nicely at F4.

I think, the lens is as good as can be exoected at F1,4 (no one would use this lens wide open for landscapes, but I think vegetation is a good subject to judge IQ), for close ups as well as protraits or night scenes. At F4 and F5,6 it is very sharp.

Enjoy your new lens!

Peter

Thanks for sharing

For landscape or environmental portraits, I tend to shoot around f4 or f5.6.  So shooting at f1.4 to f2.8 as your samples show, are not good tests.

Maybe, some indoor or lowlight portrait-style shots?  Or brick walls or cats/dogs shots?

I'm interested to see how it performs against the PanaLeica 25mmf1.4.

The first series starts at f5.6, are those not what you're looking for, landscape-wise? Also the across the parking lot shot from yesterday is f4.5.

I'll see what I can do on the rest.  Hmm, brick wall might be difficult...cats I got.

Sorry for the delay.

Miss Noelle held still for once.

Re: Thanks for sharing

Very nice indeed. Color is very Sigma - I have 3 Sigma's: 19mm/30mm Sony E-mount; 60mm m43-mount; 18-50mmf2.8 & 10-20mmf4.0 Nikon DX.  You can see I'm a Sigma fan

Thanks for doing this shot.
