Firmware update on 50-200mm OIS with NX1 not working

Today I bought, of all things, the Samsung 50-200mm OIS, not the II or III, but the first one. I mostly use adapted lenses, but I wanted something with AF for tele, so this was for some reason in the local camera store. I tested it, and it does the job just fine for what I want.

It has firmware 1.10, and I see on Samsung's website that there is a firmware 1.20 available. I downloaded it, copied the lens.bin file to the root of the SD card, went into Device Information, it says that my camera is 1.40, and the lens 1.10, selected Software Update,but it doesn't show that there is an update to be done. I tried via Wi-Fi, but it says that everything is up to date, which it's not.

Does anyone have any clue on what's going wrong and what I can do to fix it? I use a 32GB SD card, it was formatted to exFAT, I formatted it in the camera and tried again, but even with FAT32, it's a no go.

How certain are you that it is the 1st version.

I suspect you have the Samsung 50-200mm F4-5.6 OIS II version which is a different firmware which is 1.10

Best way to check if it is a first version, if it has a ifn button on the lens then it is not a first version.

It does have the i-Function button, but it doesn't say II anywhere on the lens. Are you sure it must be the II then? It doesn't say II anywhere on the box either. When you mentioned it now, I checked for images, cause before I bought I had looked and saw that the III has III on the lens itself, so I naturally assumed that this must then be the first one. And now I searched for images of the II lens, and I did find this, and it looks quite different with the text:

I have the version II and it has ifn but doesn't say II on it anywhere.  Mine doesn't look anything like that picture either.

If you look at samsung website they refer to II and III as ifn lenses but not the I

Try flashing the 1.10 for version II as it does a lensinfo check before flashing which is probably why yours didn't work. It wont damage it as it's impossible to flash a firmware for a lens that it doesn't belong to.

If you want to be doubly sure you can always download the SD card hack to get telnet connectivity to the camera and do a st cap lens lensinfo which will return all the info for the lens including the latest firmware version and model.

I see. I did try that already though, to get the II firmware, but it shows the same thing as with the firmware for the first version. On the pictures I've taken, when I look in Adobe Bridge, it only says "Samsung 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED OIS" though. I'll try the hack thing and have a look. Thank you for your replies and suggestions.

1. No iFn

2. iFn, not marked a II

3. iFn, marked as III
