One more notch and I'll be happy. I have a 400D!

Where to get it?

Thanks for the heads up on this. That's good news.  I've been wanting to use DPP 4 on the RAW files from my XSi (450D).

Now the trick is where to get it.  Have you actually gotten a DPP version that opens 450D RAW files?

I just downloaded the EOS Digital Solution Disk from the Canon 80D support page. This includes DPP 4.4.0, which does not seem to be available as a separate download. I installed it, but it still will not edit 450D RAW files.

DPP 4.3.31 was the previous version, which I have been using since last fall. Of course, it also did not open 450D RAW files. Obviously, they both handle my T4i RAW files with no problem.

Any suggestions?

Roger

Try version 4.4.30, I somehow messed up the version numbers. It can be found at for instance the 6D software download page.

Found it - only at Canon Europe

Canon USA doesn't seem to have it yet, but your suggestion worked - at the 6D support page for Canon Europe. My version now is 4.4.30.2.  And it does work with the XSi RAW files.

Thanks!

Re: DPP4 now supports down to EOS 450D

Thanks!  Got it from Canon Europe too (4.4.30.2).

Sure wish it applied image edits to the "Quick Check" images like v.3 did though.  I keep hoping that'll happen with each new release (gotta use the "Edit Image" function to vet instead).

Does a great job with the images tho!

Re: Way to go, Canon!

I have XSi and was somewhat disappointed when DPP4 came out for newer cameras only. No more. Now I am greedy and hope Canon would go one-step further to support Powershot G1X. (G1X MK2 is supported now.)

Noticed that G1X was included in the supported cameras when I downloaded the software. After installation I verified that indeed G1X is supported. Hurrah!

Re: DPP4 now supports down to EOS 450D, ? DPP3 ?

Nice!  I have the 450D!

Does anyone know if DPP4 will run alongside DDP3?  or will installing DPP4 remove DDP3.

I'd like to try DDP4 but I'm not ready to have it remove DPP3 yet!

They get installed next to eachother. Both will work fine.

+1

And I still like the "Quick Check" function of v3 better.

Re: DPP4 now supports down to EOS 450D

Considering DPP3 supports my 350D I've never bothered to upgrade. One of the problems I have found with software these days is they tend to lend themselves to the marketing ploy. I recently encountered a problem with Adobe Photoshop not recognizing images imported from a Canon 70D. The problem had something to do with the RAW conversion as indicated by the error message which recommended an upgrade. Granted the software was an earlier version and could read my RAW files from my T1i, 50D and even my 350D I feel it should have been able to read the RAW files from the 80D.

Re: DPP4 now supports down to EOS 450D

There is a flip side to this, canon appear to have stopped supporting DPP 3 for any newer bodies and I have been trying to come to terms with using DPP4, but for my needs it's awful in two major areas

Yesterday I had to go through 1800 Cr2 raw files ( shooting sandmartins in flight Prefocused)

I find that there are 3 inadequacies with the QUICK CHECK function, firstly it's far slower to load images compared with DPP3 which is instant

Secondly you can't use a keyboard and mouse together, one to toggle between images and the other to remove/apply check marks on DPP 3 they work independently which speeds up selection massively

Thirdly the cursor to move to the next shot is too close to the cursor that takes you automatically to the last shot

Additionally CROPPING is a problem as there is no preset for either A size landscape or A size portrait, and that a real downer when you have a few hundred to do, canon still sell A size paper and A size printers though

Any chance they will update DPP 3 for the newer bodies

I regularly shoot over 1000 images per shoot too. There are a couple of things that might smooth the process...

I find that there are 3 inadequacies with the QUICK CHECK function, firstly it's far slower to load images compared with DPP3 which is instant

For a first run-through (before editing images), go to Tools/ Preferences/ Image Processing 2, and select "Show Original Image."

The images will now load instantly (as fast as you can click/arrow). I find this works great for vetting.

After editing you can select "Show Image with Recipe Applied" as there will be far fewer images to go through.

Secondly you can't use a keyboard and mouse together, one to toggle between images and the other to remove/apply check marks on DPP 3 they work independently which speeds up selection massively

I use the keyboard exclusively. My first run-through is to eliminate most of the unsatisfactory images (giving them a Star rating, or Reject).

In the Quick Check screen, as long as you have last clicked with your mouse on the image preview (or thumbnail preview) area then you can scroll through the images using the Arrow Keys on the keyboard. I keep my index finger over the Right-Arrow Key.

Then I keep my left index finger over the "x" (Reject) key.

I use the Numpad to give the images Star ratings too.

"0" on the Numpad clears any Reject or Star ratings.

If I want to give images Checkmark ratings, I have my left thumb over the "Alt" key and use that in conjunction with the Numpad to give the Checkmark ratings. (The first run-through I only give Star and Reject ratings though), but YMMV.

Thirdly the cursor to move to the next shot is too close to the cursor that takes you automatically to the last shot

If you click anywhere else on the Preview Screen you will have to click back on the image in order to make the arrow keys work again for scrolling.  For instance the only way (so far) that I've found to clear a Checkmark is to use the mouse and click on the "Clear" button (remember to click back on the image anywhere to re-enable the arrow keys).

Additionally CROPPING is a problem as there is no preset for either A size landscape or A size portrait, and that a real downer when you have a few hundred to do, canon still sell A size paper and A size printers though

Sorry no help here, as I do all of that in Photoshop (after basic editing and converting in DPP).

Any chance they will update DPP 3 for the newer bodies

Zippo.

Maybe give the "Keyboard" technique a whirl. It's been extremely fast for me.

Good luck!

Quite a bit to chew on there,  I could at a push get by with the cropping issues, but will be trying out your selection ideas, many thanks for the info and response, it is much appreciated

Re: Nice, hope they add my 40D soon!

Maybe I missed something, but it appears to open and display my 30d raw files just fine. I was running both DPP3 and DPP4 together prior to downloading the latest version from the US site. I haven't actually tried to develop any of the 30d raws yet with it though.
