Lightroom and aspect ratio crop with E-M5

I like shooting in 3:2 aspect ratio and I sometimes need to change the crop region later when processing my RAW (ORF) files in Lightroom.

I was using Olympus E-PM2 camera and it worked fine - Lightroom cropped the image to 3:2, but allowed to use full 4:3 image with any crop ratio selected.

I bought used E-M5 camera and now I have a problem - Lightroom shows only 3:2 cropped image and there is no possibility to change or move the crop ratio to use areas from 4:3 raw image.

Is there any workaround for that? I have Lightroom 6.4. I don't want ot convert my ORF files to DNG...

Shoot in 4:3 format in camera and crop to any other format in post processing.

Re: Lightroom and aspect ratio crop with E-M5

Thanks for advice, but that is not a solution. I want to shoot in 3:2 because:

1. display of the camera is 3:2 so the image is a bit bigger when shooting in 3:2

2. majority of display devices (PC monitors. TVs, phones) have 16:9 display and 3:2 looks much better there than 4:3. I shoot to RAW+JPG and I leave most of my photos without post-editing just with camera output JPEG. I edit only those that I want to post somewhere and I don't want to crop every single image.

I want to find a way how to edit E-M5 photos in Lightroom in the same way like E-PM2 photos - to be able to use the whole 4:3 image for crops if needed.

I saw that somebody changes TIFF.Model from E-M5 to E-PL5 in EXIF editor to make it working, but I would like to avoid additional time consuming batch-processing of my photos before loading them to Lightroom - I want to find a way how to fix Lightroom.

DeAspect plugin

It's old and not longer supported but it works.

Re: Lightroom and aspect ratio crop with E-M5

I spent a hour with experimenting and found relatively easy solution. I edited CameraRaw.dll file in Lightroom's installation directory with a hex editor (I used PSPad) and switched E-M5 with E-P5 (replaced two occurences of E-P5 with E-M5 and also E-M5 with E-P5). This works! Photoshop now treats my E-M5 photos as taken with E-P5 and allows me to use entire 4:3 area for crops!

Of course this would need to be done each time you update Lightroom, as update will overwrite CameraRaw.dll file, but it still seems to be quite good solution to me. Much better than converting ORF to DNG or editing EXIF of each file. I didn't test DeAspect plugin that panos_m suggests, but that one seems to add menu entry that creates a duplicate raw files with modified EXIF header on selected files.

Or does anybody have a better suggestion?
