First outing with the Oly E-LP6

Still working on framing and getting proper exposure. Took my new E-LP6 out to a local lake around sunset, this probably the best photo (to my eye) that came of it.

All criticism welcome, I know I have much to learn. Much appreciated!

Re: First outing with the Oly E-LP6

Congrats on the new camera.  Overall a nice shot but a few comments:

You have "flare" from the sun in the upper right corner, you can avoid that by using the lens hood, or by covering it with your hand above the lens, or best case by shooting with the sun behind you.  Light is the building block of photography so when you shoot matters a lot.

also, to me it looks like you might want to be a bit lower when taking this picture, it's almost like you shot downwards on the boats.

Have fun, it's a great hobby.

With a wider aperture(e.g. f6.3, f5.6), your pic should be sharper - less diffraction and faster shutter speed less risk of motion blur.

Good framing though.  Was shooting into the Sun intentional?

Nice pic, Kevin

you've chosen well with the E-PL6. I had a good time and took lots of pix I am proud of with the E-PL3.

Re: First outing with the Oly E-LP6

Bob,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

I will certainly invest in lens hood to avoid this big flares in the future.

Your second tip really resonated with me. No matter how much I cropped the beach-y area in the from, something just seemed off. It makes a lot of sense that it's the perspective. Great tip!

Re: First outing with the Oly E-LP6

Thanks for the tip about aperture. I will watch that in the future and try to get a crisper image.

Shooting into the sun wasn't intentional, but I kind of liked the balance of the sun on the right and the reflection off the boats on the left. However, I can see how it could be a bit much.

Thanks for the tips!
