Should I Be Worried?

I noticed this space in my T1i while on a wedding shoot. It seems like there's a piece of rubber missing from this section as shown in the photos. Has anyone else experienced this and should this be something I need to worry about?

That hole (which the missing bit of rubber covered) is for the cable that goes from the AC adapter to the DC coupler (Canon ACK-E8).

It means that it is now easier for dirt/liquids/bugs to get into your battery compartment. Plug it up with something if that bothers you.

The actual Canon part number for the bit of rubber is CB3-4584 (or CB3-4584-000 000) if you want to replace it. T1i/500D parts manual. Page 8.

Thanks man. I think I'll just make a plug out of some rubber and seal it using some super glue.

Re: Should I Be Worried?

I would use some kind of contact adhesive. Easier to remove, with greater shear strength. Super glue is messy, and useless for shear.

+1 Super Glue has sheer strength, and not shear strength.

Good luck,

Okay so I took the decision to use both an adhesive and superglue. I have no intention of using a battery cable so I decided to just seal it. I used a light adhesive to lock it into place then placed a small drop of superglue on the inside to seal it. No mess whatsoever. And ... I also noticed this on my 350D which I also fixed.

The result on the T1i:
