Congratulations - I am prety sure you will be satisfied.

Most obvious choice for now is Panny 35-100/2.8 - they are designed to be coomplementary IQ and flexibilty wise.

And if that is too expensive....35-100/ 4-5.6 or one of the longer 45-150 or even better 45-175 are good light choices

if needing a zoom the oly 40-150 4-5.6 is cheap and gets many a job done.

it is lightweight and low priced.

Im getting a 35-100 soon but I cannot reccomend that yet.

Umm, majic…

Hoorah to Henry!.. at last the benefits of using the x2 ext are recognised.. and of course using this on the cracking 12-35 change it into a nice portrait lens.

Not the x2, the Ex-Tele with the M setting which is x1.4. The x2 takes you down to 4MPX, still not bad, but…

The thing I like about the x1.4 is that there is are plenty of pixels in use and there is no extensive reprocessing of the image, just the grab out of the middle which s always going to be the sharpest part of the image too.

However, Trevor has shown a number of times that the 2x on the G7 is vastly improved over the G6 and GX7. The GX8 likewise.

The 12-35 is a darn expensive lens.. but when you see the results...whooo!..I had the Oly 12-40 but found it too bulky/heavy and found myself leaving it at home.. the 12-35 is just so compact & light and that 12mm is light years more usefull than 14mm. I have the pancake 14mm which is a joyous wee pandrop and is such fun on the G6.

I used the pancake 14 extensively as my basic walk around lens, but sold it in favor of the 12-32, a little gem (which has some SS issues with both the G6 and GX7 but is so good in other respects that I am willing to work around those).

and I didn't realise my Oly 45mm would get me a free slot in heaven..but if Henry says so.. it must be right😀

Gee, I hope so -- Iwould be worried about the glass cracking and melting in another place.

Get the 35-100 2.8 as your next level of tele.  You will not regret. It is very sharp and not at all heavy and good size for traveling.

Just do it you certainly won't regret it - mine is on my camera 90+ % of the time since purchase 21/2 years ago. Watch the flare when shooting directly into the sun but quality even wide open is superb.

Thanks!

I bought the 12-35 today. Now that I've added the 12-35 as my walk around lens, any suggestions for a telephoto or telephoto zoom to add to my travel kit?

Now using GX7, maybe an Olympus OMD EM5MKII, EM10II, or Pen F in the future.

Gotta be the Panny f2.8 35-100, surely, Lena.

I've just come across to m43 recently, attracted by the excellent EVFs and light weight bodies and lenses. When I found some Australian retailers were going as low as $1575 for the Olympus E-M1 / 12-40mm combination, that was the kit I chose. But when I tried the Olympus 12-40, I had an immediate two-fold impression, namely, 1. "What a superbly-built lens! What a useful focal length range!" and 2. "This lens is bulk/weight of this lens means I'm unlikely to take it places." I kept hoping that my second impression would change, but it hasn't. So I spent an extended session trying out the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 in the camera store, and it felt much more balanced on the camera for me. So I've bought the Panasonic 12-35mm, and will basically offset that purchase by selling the Olympus 12-40mm. Yes, some m43 users will think, "What did you do that for?!?" But for some other m43 users like myself, the weight factor is the crucial decider. Right weight = camera comes with me. Too heavy = camera is regretfully left at home too often.

I wonder if many others have had a similar experience?

I haven't tried the Olympus (well, you probably wouldn't on a non-IBIS Panasonic), but I concur that 12-35 is an excellent lens, and very manageable (and has the advantage that it shares a filter size with my 14-140!)
