When I bought my dp0, I knew it wasn't a portrait camera, but I did have in mind to try it out as an environmental portrait camera. A study of the subject in his or her environment.

Here is an example that I took today that impressed me. Not so much impressed by my photographic skills, but by the natural rendition. Below is the camera JPEG, downsized, with no colour adjustments. WB was set to Daylight, so I expected do make some adjustment, but the colour from the camera is exactly as I saw it in the field.

This fellow has a wonderful collection of classic audio gear, including the 1963 Australian Broadcasting Commission one-off-special studio monitor loudspeakers, shown. He was so comfortable in his tasteful environment, and I wanted the image to speak of that.

P.S. if any other dp0 owners have attempted portraiture with this camera, I am happy for this thread to serve as a gallery for your work too. Hopefully not the obvious oogly closeup joke type of portrait that comes to mind when using an ultra-wide lens.

From the little I know about the subject his speakers and chairs are all in the wrong places - speakers are supposed to be in front of the listener aren't they ? :-)

Nice photo though,

Nick

Hi Arg,

Thought I might chip in with a recent shot from Istanbul, Turkey: The weather was downcast, but not my spirits, because I had just purchased the dp0 and was giving it a try. The flag vendor acted responsibly and I think he posed for me, though he acted as if he was unaware of this old chap with a curiously-shaped camera in his hand. Others were going away in all directions.

Kind regards,

Osman

Thanks Osman. Nice use of reds to lift that image, and yes, I do get a sense of his life and therefore read it as an environmental portrait. cheers

These shots (also taken with a DP0Q) from a set I just posted today, I think fits into that category, as I was also trying for a portrait of a rhino keeper in the essence of her workplace:

In general I am really fond of the idea of wide environmental portraiture, I've been thinking for a while of doing more planned work in images related to the theme, but really haven't done anything purposeful yet.

Very nice Kendall, particularly the second one, along with its clever title. Not sure if it isn't a portrait of a rhino, though, in *its* environment. ;-)

Spectacularly unique shots. Congratulations!
