Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM - Fungus or not?

Hello,

Yesterday I Purchased a second hand Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens, which seemed to be in a great condition while i was purchasing it.

However, today i took it out to test it in daylight conditions, and i noticed something strange on the front element, as shown on the image below:

These 2 dots appeared from nowhere, since they were not visible while i was purchasing it. I tried to remove them with a lens pen, a dry and wet cloth, but it didn't want to come out at all.

Later i tried the same procedure at home, and it got removed somehow, but only the inner part, the contours (outlines) remained:

So my question is, shall i be worried about this? Is this lens fungus or not? I have searched on multiple websites and Youtube videos for answers, but i wasn't able to find anything.

  • What shall i do about it?
  • Should i contact Canon for this issue, or leave it as it is?
  • Is this lens fungus or something else?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Ernest.

Dried residue from water/lens cleaner, on the outside of the lens.  Try soaking in some lens cleaning liquid to disolve them.

I think larry is right. I've had similar circular marks appear on lenses and they buffed off.
