Lockable mode dial: do you use it?

Some cameras, the E-M1 comes to mind, have a mean to lock the mode dial in position. I own this camera and the GX7. I cannot fathom how their mode dial could be moved by accident as stiff as they are already without being locked. Then again, I am not a camera designer for a reason, I am not competent for this; neither am I every photographer. So, I wonder what is your position on the locking of the mode dial?

Of course you will tell me which answers I forgot, no?

I can and do lock my mode dial. I have a few different presets created on different positions but I never use any of them. I shoot in full manual 100% of the time. Thus I have locked the mode dial to that position and have not to my memory unlocked it in the last few months.

Yes.

With my E-M5. I would occasionally bump the mode dial out of position.  I like that I can lock the dial on my E-M1, although I have left it unlocked w/o incident.  I normally shoot A mode, rarely touch the dial, except those rare occasions I want to shoot a video clip (have 2x DTC assigned to the record button)

Similar to Art. Rather than 'can and won't' I would say 'can and don't'. I'm in A mode 99% of the time, occasionally switching to S mode to freeze or blur some action. The E-M1 mode dial is quite firm so I have had no need to lock it thus far.

My mode dial (GX1) is not lockable, but this has never led to it being accidentally set to the wrong mode. A non problem.

Not lockable on GM5, but never had it move. (it's low profile and fairly stiff on this camera.

But I have had DSLRs in the past that would get reset as I pulled them from a tight bag, so if the dial does really stick up and easy to turn it's nice to have it lock.

Can't lock mine...

And I don't seem to need to either.  When the camera is off and hanging by its strap I even have the top plate facing inwards towards my body, the mode dial never gets turned or bumped, the other dials do nothing whilst off, and the camera is more comfortable to carry.

Think it's geeeenious. Some mode dials spin like weathervanes.

Cheers,

I agree that the chances of accidentally shifting the position of the mode dial on the EM-1 are low, but I lock it anyway on the principle of "if there's a way to screw up an important shot, I'll find it".

Re: Lockable mode dial: do you use it?

I think it is one of the useless buttons in my GH4 like EV comp button. The dial is so hard to turn that it cant turn itself. One time I wondered if the dial is broken because it wasnt moving any more but I figured that I had pressed accidently the lock button.
