Need to Trigger 2 a6300's in Sync

I need a way to dependably trigger or 'fire' 2 a6300's together, either using wired trigger or wireless (preferably not I.R., due to having to face camera front).  A 2-step remote would be preferred (half press focus, full press fires shutter).

I've seen wireless triggers, but I don't know if they'd communicate with two cameras (if there is a frequency that could be set).

A Wireless Remote on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Pixel-Wireless-Multi-Terminal-DSC-HX300-RX100III/dp/B00LLTZBU8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458117743&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+rx100+remote

And I don't know if wired triggers could be "Y-connected," because they usually establish a handshake with just one camera at a time. (I may be wrong, and they could activate focus and shutter release without problem on 2 cameras at once.)

Wired Version of Sony's remote (perhaps could be Y-adapted to go to two cams.):

Has anyone had experience doing this with 2 Sony cameras?

Re: Need to Trigger 2 a6300's in Sync

I don't have 2 cameras to test but I see no reason the Yangneo RF-603ii triggers wouldn't work. They don't make a cable for them to the Sony input but I found a 2.5mm to USB cable works it was only a couple bucks on ebay. So you'd need 3 RF-603II and two cables. That's wireless RF and the button on the trigger functions exactly like the one on the camera with half press and continuous shooting. All in is probably under $60 and the camera's are independent wireless no Y cable. Of course there's no reason you couldn't make a Y or even get a Y 2.5mm and then you'd only need 2 RF-603II

There's only 3 pins used in the USB for remote. Common, focus, and shutter and their dumb no information on them just short common to either to activate that function that's the same as with other cameras too so any trigger will work adapted to the USB. The Yangneo are still my top choice I love them and you can put them on the hotshot making it a very clean setup they also double as flash triggers.

That page does mention

  • Multiple cameras control simultaneity: take pictures at the same time by one remote control with multiple receivers

as one of the selling points.

I have a wired trigger similar to that one (JJC TM-F2), and it works as a plain shutter release without batteries, so I don't believe it's doing any handshakes and should therefore be trivially splittable.

Has anyone had experience doing this with 2 Sony cameras?

No actual experience, just guesswork, but based on the above, both wireless and wired triggers sound quite plausible to me.

Re: Need to Trigger 2 a6300's in Sync

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.
I'm now looking at both of those options, and both seem very viable.

It helps immensely to know there is little or no communication both ways (handshaking), so the signal may just be transmitted, simply, to the cameras.

Re: Need to Trigger 2 a6300's in Sync

I just received my two Yongnuo RF603C II and 2.5mm to Sony cables. I want to wirelessly trigger my A6000 from my A6300. Basically I shoot photos in the A6300 and the A6000 shoots as well. Preferably at a high-frame rate. From what I've read, it could be as easy as getting the switches in the proper location to something more complex. FYI: I do have the second version with the "Off", "TX", and "TRX" switches.

Re: Need to Trigger 2 a6300's in Sync

Hi,

I found this old post because I am interested in triggering 2 Sony a6300 in Sync as well.

I wonder how accurate the sync might be using the options suggested here, i.e. connecting remote shutter cables or sending an IR signal to two receivers.

For example a delay in capturing the image to within 1ms, 2ms ...or more?

I also posted a request regarding the Sony VMC-MM2 cable (on the Sony alpha aps-c talk section) which is intended to be used to sync a sony alpha and a sony dsc-rx0.

Looking at

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/jose-barbera-marti-using-the-sony-vmc-mm2-cable-for-sony-alpha-rigs/

It seems possible to sync 2 sony a6300.

Could anyone who tested this cable give any suggestions about accuracy in sync?

Thank you.

Giuseppe
