HD 70-200mm - first set of images
10

Here you go guys!

First set of imagers from the HD 70-200mm lens.

It is big and heavy - but I like what I am seeing from these quick set of images. It was a dull day.

Cheers

Hey, Man.

Some delicious shots, there - especially Schwartz's. Good stuff!

Are you living in Montreal now?

Very nice.

Seems very sharp wide open! Glad to see your first set was in Montreal ( did you come from Toronto to pick your lens up at Lozeau ? ).

BTW, as a longtime user of the Tammy 70 - 200, what are your first comparative impressions with the Pentax ?

Enjoy your stay in Montreal !

Living in Montreal - Nope. Just went to collect the lens.

Pre-ordered at Lozeau when it was on sale - paid $2144.99 + tax.

Cheers

Hi Younes,

Bigger and heavier than the Tamron - focus is fast, decisive and silent.

The images quality remind me of the FA 85mm - very clean and has that special quality.

Definitely a keeper!

Cheers

Re: HD 70-200mm - first set of images

I hope you had a chance to try the smoked meat at Schwartz's.

I used to work at St. Lawrence and Prince Arthur, just two blocks away, and was a regular customer there.

When I worked there, though, the signs were mostly English as it was a predominantly English-speaking area.

I see the language police have been very busy...

Between my friend and I we bought over $150 of smoked meat it take home.

Delicious! That's why there are so many returning customers like you.

Cheers

Hi Bruce,

It looks good and evenly sharp across the frame for all shoots.

Looking forward to seeing more street work but mostly shoots with models and still life you treat us with!

Enjoy.

THIS is what I and many others here were waitin from. Thanks for sharing Bruce.

From what I see, the first image says it all. Sharpness and contrast looks good. The background rendition looks good too.

You have a fine barrel there my friend.

Re: HD 70-200mm - first set of images

Congrats (and some envy) for the lens and thanks for posting your first shots. As there has been assumed that the size of the barrel close to the mount was too uncomfortable with the first design and reason for the postponement: How does the lens feel in your hands? Are your right hand fingers comfortable holding and operating the K-3?

Just wondering. Thanks for your input.

Re: HD 70-200mm - first set of images

Hi. Looks like a great lens, but I have a question..

I bought the Tamron 70-200 and I think it is a great lens. It does suffer from focus breathing when focusing for short distances and I was wondering if you had a sense of how the Pentax performs in this area?

Thanks

TB

Re: HD 70-200mm - first set of images

Hi Risember,

The zoom ring is reversed, compared to the Tamron - but I am getting use to it.

The barrel is indeed "fat". My fingers are not too big - and there are gap between the fingers (on the grip) and the barrel. For me - it is comfortable. I can see people with big hand (fingers) might have problem. I don't have a grip for the K-3 - I think with the grip attached it will definitely help.

I think it will handle better on the K-1 - being taller and a little bit wider.

Incredible lens - focus is fast and the image quality is amazing.

Cheers

Re: HD 70-200mm - first set of images

Hi Dean,

It is an old building.

That' was my first impression - images are clean - just like what the FA 85mm lens produces.

A highly recommended lens!

Cheers
