PowerShot SX530 HS Software

3/6/16  I bought a new Canon PowerShot SX 530 HS Digital Camera on 2/24/16.  This is my first digital camera, and I plan to use it for taking gardening photos, including close-ups of flowers, etc.

I understand that I will need to download software from Canon's website.

I plan to take pictures, insert the memory card into my computer and then share some pictures on Facebook, save some in my Pictures file, and probably print some on a high-quality printer at a local shop.

1) What do I need the downloadable software for if I don't plan to do anything except what is mentioned in item #1 above?

2) I made a preliminary visit to Canon's website to see what is involved in downloading the software. The website advises they do not have software on the site for Windows 10 (x64) which is what I have, and that I should contact Canon support. Does this possibly mean that they don't have software for Windows 10 (x64)?

3) Did I buy an obsolete camera?

Thank you for your assistance with my "beginner's" questions.

Hi Anne, you don't need the software for this, just put the SDHC card in your cardreader and copy (move) the files to your computer, if you have a picture viewer (stardard in windows) or ACDsee.

The SX530 is something more than a year old, so not really absolete, but that was before the release of win 10 (I think).

Hope this helps.

Hello Anne, you do not need the Canon software because Windows 10 has a built in App that can help you import and edit your photographs. The App is called Photos, I am not a big fan of this App but you may like it. The import feature is very basic, there are no tagging options and by default it applies automatic optimisation to your photos (a trip into the settings is required to disable this "feature").

Here are the names of some free applications that I think do a better job than the Photos App. Faststone Image Viewer, Picasa, Zoner free, Windows Live Photo Gallery and Xnview. I think Picasa would best meet your needs.
