Why you should not feel guilty of spending 1200 on the Pen-F
6

You want Olympus skin tones, stabilization in camera, Olympus lenses, makes Panasonic stabilized lenses, excellent jpegs...

E-PM2, E-PL5 E-pl6 are ruined due to shutter shock

E-PL7 is 3 ounces lighter than the PEN-F but:

-it has no quiet mode for speeches, church, baby not to wake,

-it has no sex appeal, it was a boring camera all of its life

-Pen-F has 5 axis instead of 3

-Pen-F has 20 megs

-Pen-F has newer technology, faster burst

-Pen-F has fancy PL3 flash with perfect bounce

-PL7 plus $ 250 VF-4 weigh .5 ounce less than PEN-F, in other words, same weight

-PL7 with VF-4 looks like the men from Mars are on top of your camera

-PEN-F has style and looks great

-PEN-F has 50 mb mode

those benefits take the $ 500 PL7 plus the 250 VF-4 at only $ 500 more for the PEN-F

10 benefits for $ 500 are $ 50 per benefit, a bargain

and the PEN-F is still jacket pocketable and party social sized, it has no hump on top like a big camera to pull out at a party

So don't feel guilty!

There is no reason to feel guilty to begin with

...unless you are spending money you don't have. That does however not mean that spending so much money is wise decision.

It is not down to you what anybody spends their money on. This is quite possibly the most pointless thread ever.

A guilty feeling is not what I'd expect.

People who will buy it could do so for very sound reasons. They could feel stupid though, if stupid could ever feel itself, if they bought it for wrong ones. For example, it seems to me that street photography and bling are mutually exclusive.

Wow, what a defensive and offensive reply at the same time. I can imagine a hundred reasons for that thread that are completely different than to prescribe one's behaviour. Relax no one is after your cash.

Those who think the Pen F has style and looks great are those who also think that a Jaguar E type with 24" rims and a body kit looks great and stylish.

The only guilt you should feel about is being conned into the hype and marketing.
It offers no significant improvement over the EM5 II, yet here in Oz it costs several hundred dollars more than the EM5 II, thats what you need to feel guilty about!
Here's the kicker, it's the most expensive oly, yet it doesn't have PDAF, weather sealing, not as ergonomic, has a swing out lcd, no improvement in ISO.
I can't for the world of me figure out why it's the most expensive oly (actually it's the most expensive m4/3 camera), the only theory that comes to mind is that oly is going for form over function with the PEN F, but they haven't been able to pull it off.

Wow, that is some serious overthinking!  Just to simplify things, try going through this process next time...

Q: Don't want it?
A: Don't get it.

Q: Do want it?
A: Get it.

Done.

Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I'll happily wait 6 months and buy your PEN F for $500 when the next 'must have' body appears on the market and you can't resist to upgrade for whatever reason your logic dictates. Meantime, I'll continue to use my EPL7 and enjoy my images knowing that the real world difference in IQ is likely to well - very small indeed.

Looking forward to purchasing a bargain PEN F in the next 12 months!

Hee hee. Best reason of all.

I added it up and have spent $620 on four of those those cursed VF's. Now I know they were alien artifacts sent by Olympus to steal my money,

I would think that bling and street photography can work, that they don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. The camera as bling can start conversations and allow for photo ops, or if one wants to be stealthy, bling can make you look like a harmless tourist.

At least I hope this is true as I bought one for "bling" and street photography

So far the camera as bling has not gotten in the way.

Of course I do, lets not forget one important factor, besides the "look" what I said is all facts, take it with a grain of salt.

Hi

People do spend even more than the cost of a Pen-F on a camera. Or a lens for that matter. Its great to have a choice. If you like it and the money it costs over a "similar" alternative is not significant to you them why not? The world of watches is far more extreme.

I am glad you do, but you're shoulding on me dude by saying I SHOULD FEEL GUILTY, really?

Obviously it's not a camera that appeals to you, that's ok.  It doesn't represent a good value proposition to you and that's ok.  I would feel guilty if I were taking food out of my children's mouth to buy it, but I am not.

I am choosing not to feel guilty and to enjoy my overpriced and over hyped camera. Why? Because it is the most fun camera I have used in a while. It may not be the camera but other circumstances as to the increased fun factor, but I am giving credit to the camera.

But I get it why it doesn't appeal to you now.

I am curious if it would appeal to you if were $800.00 or so, or not?

While the Pen F sports a similar 20mp sensor to the GX8, it should not cost more than it, because it has less in the way of features and functions.
I think it would appeal to a lot of people if it were around the 800 mark.
