Canon 750d - this function is not available in moving shooting mode

Hi I've had a 450D for a few years and I fancied an upgrade to one that also did video.

I purchased a second hand Canon 750d and I'm having a few issues.

I get "this function is not available in moving shooting mode" I've tried lots of settings and also defaulted the camera but can't get it to record video. Also I've tried a few different lenses and different memory card (I'm using a Lexar Pro 64GB Class 10 - UHS-II)

Also it has a constant message on the screen "this function is not selectable in the current shooting mode".

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction

Thanks

Mark

In what mode are you trying to shoot video?

I think it says 'movie shooting mode"

The 750D has a lot of features, but it's still a "Rebel" with very simplified options and less capability than the x0D and higher.

With the sole exception of M mode, movie shooting with the 750D is always full auto. You cannot select the shutter speed, aperture, or ISO - note on p. 223: "In Basic modes the shooting result will be the same as in [A+] ... In Av and Tv shooting modes, movies will be taken with the same settings as in the P mode."

Maybe one of the buttons on top or side of the camera is stuck - like depth of field preview or ISO or Display or AF Area Selection - try pressing each one in turn and see if they seem to move OK.

Hi sorry I've only just seen this.

I have tried in auto and P modes. I just can't seem to get it to work.

I took it into a camera shop and they said it was probably faulty which doesn't bode well as I purchased it second hand

What happens when you move the power switch to the video symbol and then try to shoot video?

I just get that message on the screen, its ok though I ended up sending it back to Canon. I had to suck up the repair cost but hopefully it should be back tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply

This is kind of a shot in the dark, but by any chance was the wi-fi enabled / disabled?  I was noticing on my 70D that video mode is not available when the camera has wi-fi enabled.  Or maybe a stuck button or switch somewhere?

I would bet it was a stuck button - probably dirt - but too late now - I doubt Canon will give details of what was wrong

I have a relative that was unable to record video with a lexar video card and some cards labeled class 10 can't record full HD video on rebels. PNY professional cards work.

I think the SD card is your problem not the camera

Thanks

Hi thanks for all the comments, it turns out the camera was at fault. They replaced the flash unit and also as far as I can tell have reloaded the firmware.

I had a little play last night and it seems perfect

Looking forward to shooting some pics and videos at Goodwood this weekend

Not sure how the camera flash would affect video recording.

Your explanation of what was wrong was extremely vague.

It wasn't just the video that didn't work. The basic functions weren't working correctly.

This is all I got from the repair but the error messages have all gone so I would guess that the firmware was corrupt. The Flash kept getting err 05 too which they have replaced.
