Hello, I enjoy reading this forum and thought it is time to introduce myself. Your lively talk contributed to convincing me two years ago to enter the world of micro four thirds. I came from my old and dear Canon A1 which I purchased in 1986. I shot that well into 2007, until I slowly moved into digital cameras. One point and shoot after another, I was enamored by the convenience. But I never really cared so much for the image quality of the pointers and shooters. On the other hand, I never cared for the style and size of the DSLRs either, the material, grip and body did not enticed me. Just never had the mental energy and time to wrap my mind around digital.
Three years ago, I unsuspectedly happened across an OM-D E-M5 in the local camera store in my town. My, was I impressed. At once I began devouring everything I could find about mirrorless cameras, reviews, forums, blogs and tests. A whole new world opened up for me. They were small, elegant, and best of all, the image quality suited my purposes just fine. There was also a Fujifilm camera that caught my eye as well, though I can’t remember which model it was. I finally settled on the micro four thirds standard, simply because of the wonderful plethora of lenses. I bought the E-M10 with the 25 f1.8 as the kit lens to start with. What an amazing combination. It almost felt like I was holding my old A1 in my hands again! Not too much later, I acquired the 17 f1.8 and the 45 f1.8. I dabbled into a zoom with the 14-150 f4.0-5.6. And finally, after much searching around, settled on the Crumpler Jackpack 3000 bag – perfect size for the all that equipment. At the same time I bought the camera I also bought Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5. The world of RAW had also opened up to me too. After investing some time in a couple of courses, to some extent I was developing my pictures again! Someone has written in their signature here – so much to learn, so little time. So true!
Fast forward to the present. I recently sold off the E-M10 with the 14-150 f4.0-5.6 and upgraded to the E-M5ii with the 12-40 f2.8 Pro zoom (needed to upgrade Lightroom too). The weather resistance and 5 axis stabilization were the primary motivating factors. My exaltation began all over again! For the long shots I also just ordered the new 14-150 f4.0-5.6ii on sale, I like the idea of the weather resistance. Now I am saving for the 40-150 f2.8 Pro, but that will take time. My piggy bank is empty. In case you are wondering, I enjoy photographing landscape, street scenes and family – mostly always with available light. I particularly enjoy wandering around the streets of European cities and towns taking candid shots.
You all are reading the story of one happy camper. With my E-M5ii I feel just at home now as with my A1 (which I still take out now and then ;-). Would like to thank you all for the lively discussion and I look forward to participating and sharing. Best to you all.
