Canon a worst product and service
1

Product Serial Number: 902060054756

Date of Purchase: 11/27/2015

I bought cannon SX520 HS camera.

When inserting memory card, it shows memory card error.

But same memory card working good in other cameras.

Memory card: 32GB, SanDisc, Class 10.

This camera was bought in US, now I am in India.

I took cannon to service center in India, they said USA warranty cannot be applied here.

Now they say PCB UNIT have to be replaced.

PCB UNIT defect and to be replace

Part Charges Rs.2518/-
Service Charge Rs.750/-

Service Tax Rs.105/-
Total Charges Rs.3373/-

I bought this for 99$ + tax.

I have not event took a single photo, it needs a service for 60$ (3373Rs + some other charge).

I can’t afford so much for a repair, it is better to buy a new once than to use this repaired one.

I contact both US and India support, both refused to help me.

They cant waive off the service charge.

They cant extend my warranty.

They cant even give discount for the repair.

Total waste of my money.

How could cannon sell such a useless product? Don’t they test it before selling?

Just insert card and it shows Memory card error.

I post this question just to show how bad Canon product could be, don’t trust them.

Have you thought about getting it to the States to claim the warranty?

He shouldn't have to! Localised warranties are ridiculous when the world has become such a small place.

Simple: did Canon make the camera or not? Do they stand behind their product or not?

That's common practice for warranties, not just Canon.

Amazon.com currently charges 249$ (almost 3 times what you paid) for an SX520. Maybe the fact that someone sold it to you for only 99$ could/should have been a clue that what you were buying was maybe not a fully functional product?

I have not event took a single photo,

So you didn't test it after you bought it?

Apparantly you didn't either?

Just insert card and it shows Memory card error.

Try formatting the card while it's in the camera, from within the camera menus.

I post this question just to show how bad Canon product could be, don’t trust them.

Well, if they can't be trusted, then why are they the biggest camera seller in the world? Personaly I have had only positive experiences with Canon repair.

I understand your disappointment, but aren't you being a bit harsh here?

Considering the $269 price in the US, your $99+60 for repair still brings you $100 below what it really costs in the US.  Warranties have always been regionalized, so it cannot be such a surprise to you that you cannot get a US warranty outside of North America.  However, I question the price you quoted as paying for the camera.

Did you try formatting the memory card in the camera? Did you try using a different memory card with the camera?

You obviously bought a used camera. It's not Canon's fault that it doesn't work — it's the fault of the person who sold it to you.
Your memory card may not be formatted properly for your camera — different cameras and computers use different formatting protocols, such as NTFS and FAT32. Stick the card in the camera and use the menu system to find the "format" command, and do a complete format of the card.

I had this happen on a used p&s Fuji purchased a few years ago on eBay. I suggest you go into the menu, find and choose reset, insert a NEW SD card, format the card and try again. Good luck.

My experience with Canon has been excellent! I've called their tech support number for help on my photo printers and once on my DSLR. In less than a 1-2 minute wait, I spoke with very competent technicians who really know their product well. I place Canon support at the very top with regards to technical help.

You probably should have read the terms of the warranty.  Some companies will cover their product anywhere in the world where their product is sold, some will not.

You've just based the quality of a worldwide company that makes dozens of models of digital cameras, sells millions every year, on a sample size of one and your error in judgement regarding the warranty.  Ok.

That's pretty much the end of the discussion.  OP, if you paid 40% of retail on this camera then you clearly didn't purchase it from an authorized retailer, which means you don't have a Canon warranty anywhere in the world.
