I was one of the first to receive the GX8 in August of 2015. I shoot many outdoor scenes often in harsh environments but also am a coffee shop photographer (over 700 shops worldwide photographed). In short, depending on setting and location, I alternate the GX8 with my Nikon D810 and have found this combination to be a perfect combination for the widest spectrum of indoor and outdoor photography. The GX8 (I previously owned the GX7) is the perfect size for me when I am shooting rapid candid shots of people and events. It is weather sealed which is vital for me as I frequently photograph desert and arctic scenes. Once the auto focus function and manipulation is understood I have found that the clarity and resolution at 20MP rivals the D810 particularly with indoor shots (see example of hotel bar shot - reduced in size). Unfortunately the user's manual is very short on explaining anything other than in an abstracted abbreviated format. It certainly would help new users if someone would publish a "mastering the GX8" text with instructive applications. I particularly like the one-point color filter which is the best in the industry for allowing the user to more specifically sensor select the color emphasis of choice. I could go on about the user dynamics of the GX8 but the long and short of it for me is that it combines perfectly with premium full-frame high resolution cameras for ideal flexibility in the field.

Based on this image, I'm finding it quite easy to underrate this camera.

Seems like a lovely camera.

Just one point though. If it is difficult to underrate it wouldn't that mean it was no good?

Exactly. If the OP likes the camera. "difficult not to underrate" would have been better...

The E-M5 MkII picture was amusing :-)

Good review with an excellent comparison of performance. Very interesting comments on the performance of the 20MPX.

arn it -- Iam trying to resist the urge to switch from the GX7. People like you make it hard! Explosive GAS coming on!

I think you got the wrong term in the subject line though -- saying "difficult to underrate" means it is so bad you hit the bottom of the barrel -- or at least t used to! It is one of those mad double negative terms in reality. You are very happy with the camera and rate it highly, so it is difficult to OVERrate it -- it is so good there is not much headroom available to rate it more highly therefore it is diffiult to overrate it.

Ah, the aged pedant in me. :)

Resistance is futile. While some find the GX8 'big,' it's just right for me, and I have average size hands. The handling and controls are very good, image quality is excellent, focusing speed is great in single shot, and continuous AF is improved, but still not a DSLR. Overall it's a killer cam.

Get the silver one. It looks simply great in silver.

:-)

OK, OK but I think you know what I mean.

was shot in partial color (processing mode) - selecting only yellowish color palate - everything else was graytone. actually the GX8 does this more selectively in my opinion

Exactly, thanks much

no, my bad on the difficulty issue. the gx7 is a superb camera and in many respects i wish i had not sold it (took it across Spain in all types of precipitation on the Camino trek without any difficulty even though it is not "weather sealed" - it performed beautifully.

yes, i agree - it is the perfect fit. after testing the d5 it seems micro.

bad choice. try this one

I don't see anything sharp in this picture. Either it is out of focus, or given that it's 1/160 with the 14-140, it suffers from severe shutter shock.

I would have rejected this shot on first pass.

This picture was never intended to be "sharp" - just to depict a young boy with ambient light and GX8 one-point color.
