Whale Watching (GX8 + 100-300mm)
4

I bought the GX8 specifically for this whale watching trip in Okinawa last week. Having previously owned a GF3 only, the IQ that GX8 produced is already a big jump for me and I'm very satisfied with it. Also the 20MP sensor really did retain the details quite well.

You may noticed most of the photos were shot at 100mm end, it's because at that time I didn't expect the whale would be that close (even the tour guide said they don't normally get that close). Also I did not want to miss out any shooting opportunities just to change my lens to 14-140II (Although 14-140II would be better suited for its Dual IS function with GX8 esp. the sea was quite rough on the day)

All photos were shot in RAW and processed with DXO OpticsPro 10

Camera settings
M-Mode
Lens IS only
Shutter 1/2500
f/7.1
ISO-Auto

Weather
Cloudy/Sunlight

Gorgeous shots, would have nicer to see some head of the whale.

I agree these are wonderful captures. I was on a 2.5 hour whale chasing cruise off Honolulu yesterday, and no whale poked her head out of the water. These photos echo what I saw, and I wish my photos were half as good.

Whale breaching is really hard to come by, I wish mine had breached too.

But that gives me something to look for in my next whale watching session
