What superzoom for my GX7?

Reading about possible shutter shock with the Panasonic 14-140 on the GX7 I wonder if Olympus 14-150II would be a better option?

And what about Panasonic 100-300 vs Olympus 75-300II?

Shutter Shock isn't a problem for most of us.  I have 14-140 and 100-300 but rarely shoot at the speeds that some  people experience shutter shock at.  I get along with both very well.

Re: What superzoom for my GX7?

Optically 14-140 II is best superzoom out there - it you will look for the users experience, you will find it discussed to depth. I use it with GX7/GH4 90% of all shots and with e-shutter nearly exclusively. And with 0,5 m at 140mm close focusing distance you get some semi - macro opportunities. The difference between primes like 1,7/20 1,7/42,5 or 2,8/35-100 2,8/12-35 is practically negligible so small it is not worth to talk about. However at AV 1,7/2/2,8 all of them are infinitely better. Each of my OIS lenses behave differently as per stabilization. Most of them in my hands improve the stablity within 2-4 stops. This one can quite reliably operate at  4 stops - no kidding.

If using GX7, IMHO 14-140II would be your best option. The following was taken by my wife on GX1, just the combo most suspicious to shutter shock:

Recently we found 14-140II would be such a perfect fit on GX7, it was mounted on my GX7 and becoming my wife's camera.... The following was on e-shutter:

I can say 14-140II, such a superzoom, could beat my good old 14-45 in every aspect.

GX7 has IBIS, but is still relatively primitive and not as good as EMs. 150 (eq to 300mm FF) is not a focal length handheld shooting without good stabilization. YMMV.

Don't worry about it. Just activate Silent Mode and you're good to go.

The 14-140mm II is an excellent lens. In good light it stacks up well compared to my 12-40mm.

100-300mm. It has OIS, which is more effective than IBIS at that length.

Be sure to shoot at f7.1 at all times for maximum sharpness, especially at the long end. If you ratchet it back to around 285mm it performs a bit better than at 300mm. Obviously, keeping the shutter speed as fast as possible helps, too.

Do get the tripod collar from Rösch Feinmechanik in Germany. It costs about $100 but improves balance when using either a tripod or monopod.

Re: What superzoom for my GX7?

Thanks for your input, I just ordered the 14-140 in a kit with the G7 for €860.

Lens alone is €620 so I got the G7 really cheap!

+1...Good advice, Jeff.

I found exactly the same parameters worked when I had the 100-300 on my GX7. I can use it at 300mm and wide open on my EM-5 II with excellent results, however,...funny.

I have the Oly 14-150 and my wife has the Panny 14-140. I could never, ever tell the difference if the same image were shot with either one. Both are great, but I'd go for the Panny on the GX7 because of the OIS.

That's a great deal! I think you'll really like the lens! Every time I use it it surprises me.
