Tested my 1.4x MC-14 today for the first time
4

After seeing some of the wonderful shots posted by people with the new Zuiko 300mm Pro I suddenly remembered that I had bought the MC-14 with my 40-150 Pro a while ago. I got it out today and tested it on the lens for the first time. Some American Robins were in a tree eating red berries so I tried a few hand-held shots. I took this one from +/- 20ft away zoomed-in to the max I think. The first one below is uncropped, the next is how I  would crop it and the third, a +/- 1:1 crop to show the detail captured from 20ft. This small 4/3 sensor never ceases to amaze me. I use a D810 too but, my E-M1 is the camera that goes just about everywhere with me. I just thought this was interesting to see...

Un-cropped photo as shot in RAW with minimal processing in Lightroom.

This is how I would crop it.

This is a +/- 1:1 crop from the photo. I think the cameras we use today are astounding. To capture that fine detail in the feathers from 20ft away hand-held. I'm not a pro but I find that my 16MP E-M1 meets most of my needs. When I need it, I carry my D810 but, a lot of the time, I'm extremely happy with my Oly gear.

What took you so long?

Mine is always attached to the 40-150mm for that extra bit of reach.

Its a great combo and can be cropped up to 1:1. I crop a lot of my bird shots at 50% when using this combo.

Here are a couple of examples.

I expect the 300mm f4 with or without the MC14 will able to take similar cropping. Which will an added benefit.

Its good to hear some positive comments for a change, particularly from a dual system shooter.

Cheers

Dennis

Beautiful shots Dennis and thanks for posting them. I've been very rushed over the past few months as I retired at the end of December 2015 and completely forgot that I had the converter, only remembering yesterday after seeing some fantastic shots posted with the new 300mm. I have not really done much bird photography and decided to give it a go and am very impressed with the results.
