Did you add any background blurring in post processing?

No, only reduce noise to subject with Capture one Pro 9 ( with ORF files i like Capture One Pro 9 )

Thanks

The feather/eye detail is hard to beat, with what looks like perfect focus, with a lens that has the rap of softness at 300mm, at ISO 800 no less! Congratulations on a great set!

Did you use electronic shutter and IBIS? And being handheld, I assume AF rather than MF.

With my 100-300, and the lens' not great OIS, I have to keep SS above 1/500 handheld at 300mm, but age has taken a toll on my steadiness. I've had poor results with the elect. shutter on my GH4/100-300 except when locked down.

It looks like the new Oly body has given new legs to an old lens!

Pete

Nice shots and interesting because the weakest shot there is the Great Tit.  I take a lot of Blue Tits and Great Tits and my success rate with Blue Tits is much better than Great Tits.  Totally illogical but true.

I just love small birds and especially taken at their eye level. The 2nd shot is a great composition and all shots are very well taken. Nice details in all of them and wonderfully sharp feathering at the larger views.

All the best Antonio, keep them coming.

Danny.

If 100-300mm can do these...
2

If Pana 100-300mm can do these in the hands of a skillful photographer, imagine what the coming Pana 100-400mmm will be able to do, being much sharper wide open @f5.6 than 100-300mm stopped down to 6.3.

Not speaking about 400mm availability.

Can't wait for the Panasonic 100-400mm!

My dear Savings Account, will you forgive me that huge withdrawal?

Nice pics. It is a challenge to get good shots in a cloudy day. Pana 100-300mm lens gives best results when the sun is low and behind your back.

I think that iso800 is too much to get high quality photos with m4/3. Iso 250 is my high quality limit and iso640 is my limit for too much noise and mushy details.

If you have got a good pic at 1/10s at 300mm I suggest to lower iso and try lower shutter speed with burst. There is always some sharp frames with burst at low shutter speed. Also you can try f5.6. You can have cleaner image (lower iso) with f5.6 and then sharpen more in post.

Re: Birds with EM5 Mark II and Panasonic 100-300mm

Great photos! I'm thinking of the EM5 Mk II, as a replacement for my Panasonic GF1, to pair with my Panasonic 100-300mm lens. You have convinced me that good results are possible hand held.

I also use the Sigma 150-600mm lens on my Canon 60D for bird photos but a tripod is essential and it's too heavy and cumbersome to carry everywhere.

Thanks

David

P 100-300 is indeed decent  lens.

Great pics Antonio. Are there any problems associated with using Panasonic lenses, with lens stabilisation, on the EM5 2, which has in-body stabilisation? If so, what do you do?
