Crazy low prices

Heads up-

B&H is practically giving away Pentax lens right now.

I just picked up a brand new DFA 100 WR Macro 2.8 for-get this-$342!!!

If you're looking to add another lens to your kit, check out the sale.

DA* 300 for under $900! This is crazy.

Unfortunately only great if you live in the States.

I wonder if sales overseas have dropped a lot with the appreciation of the $US in the past 1 1/2 years.

I'm in Australia and used to frequently buy from Adorama. Now with the plumment in the Australian dollar things just do not work out so cheap any more.

Re: Crazy low prices

Thanks for the heads-up.  Do you suppose that this means that we will soon see many of these lenses replaced with new ones, both primes and zooms?  Besides the long-awaited full-frame camera, maybe we will also see a new APSC replacement for the K3ii this year.  I was hoping for a quieter screw drive motor in all future Pentax high end cameras, so that the non-motor primes will be quieter to focus.

Or, instead of a quieter screw drive, maybe a fast and reliable ring-drive could be part of a new 50-135 f/2.8, for example.  A new AF system in the full-frame, and maybe also in the next APSC camera, might also need faster focussing lenses.  Excuse me for dreaming out loud.

It is insane. the DA*60-250/4 is $832.57 now. What is possible reason for such drastic markdown? Coming soon FF?

Maybe Pentax is not selling that well (that is my take whenever I visit Adorama or B&H, US market is practically dead), so they could be clearing the stock a bit, or streamlining the inventory of stocked Pentax lenses to clear up space for products with more traffic.

150-450 is discounted more than $700 ... it is practically the latest pentax design on the market right now - I can't imagine they are replacing it already

"What is possible reason for such drastic markdown?"

Could it have something to do with the Yen / Dollar exchange rate?

Building market share and momentum ready for the big release.

OR we can pick some other crazy reason and run with it?

Re: Crazy low prices

I was not referring to the newer lenses, but that is a good point.  Either B & H are doing as you say, or they are being told by Ricoh to get rid of the old stock, because new replacements are on the way this year.  Another possibility is that both of these things are happening - lenses not selling well AND new lenses on the way.  Time will tell.

da*60-250 price is very tempting though i have the tamy 70-200.

i think the da*60-250 is covering the full frame circle with no issue. if so i may buy it and sell my tammy.i like pentax  lenses colors render.

Tokina... sorry, Pentax 12-24/4 is still over $600 instead of the $450 Tokina charges on other mounts.

It's all about the strength of the US dollar which is why you don't see these prices in other countries.

It vignettes the 60 end but seems fine on the 250 end.

Fully agree.  It's common for a manufacturer to offer discounts due to exchange rate movement instead of adjusting MSRP.

Maybe common for Ricoh but I don't see the same thing for Canon lenses on the B&H website.  In fact, they are at their usual prices despite exchange rates.

If strength of dollar is the root cause, all Japanese lenses from other brands would have similar drop in prices.

I list three lenses for Pentax APS-C that I would classify as ambassadors for the brand: This one, the 35 ltd macro, and the *300 f/4.

I am at two out of three, and the k5-ii is still going strong.

Ricoh-don't abandon us!
