Took me a long time to love
1

This lens took me a long time to love.    I bought this lens in 2009, because I wanted to experiment with macro a bit more and found I used it more as a portrait lens in the studio (the studio was long and narrow).   I like the lens, but for several years I only used it in the studio.  There was nothing inherently wrong with the lens, it just never fit my needs.

So it sat, most of the time, in my hard case, collecting dust.  Several times I took it out shooting with me, it never got used.   Then I tried to sell it to a friend 2 years ago.   He ended up keeping it for 3 months using it almost daily....he was in love with it, but couldn't come up with the cash.   So i took it back and started using it again.   On the 6D, it handled very well and my shots looked very sharp.

I took it out more frequently, and each time I used it, I fell a little more in love!   Now, when I go out shooting, it will be part of 1 of the 2 kits I carry (16-28, 50, 100 or 35, 50 & 70-200).

I guess the only think I am not so hot about is that the AF works best if you are close to the right focus.    So if you are completely defocused and focus on something 50' away, the lens doesn't even try.

I would buy it again, for sure.    It is a very good lens.

I really love that lens. Its versatility grew on me over time until I realized I couldn't be without it. The speed of the 70-200mm f2.8 at exactly half the angle of view at a fraction of the size and weight with 1:1 and little 58mm filters.

Great lens. Pair it with the 24-70mm or a 35mm f2.
