Canon PowerShot SX710 HS

I purchased this camera yesterday in order to shoot individual photos of oil on canvas paintings to email to potential buyers. I need to know if this camera is the right camera for it? Also, I bike in the trails which has a lot of wildlife and need to know if it takes good shots of far away animals? I also like to take Macro shots.

I have time to return this camera, so I would really appreciate someone who's an expert at cameras to answer my questions. If this is not the right camera, please make a suggestion as to which Canon camera which is compact would suit my needs.

Thank you.

Haven't used this camera but the lack of a viewfinder would make it harder to get photos of far off animals in my view, especially in sunlight. Panasonic tz70/ts50 and sony hx90v are the equivalents with viewfinder, but they will probably be more expensive.

If you want a Canon compact for distant scenes then this is the best currently  There are other Canons which have better IQ but they are not so compact eg G3X or other Canons of better quality and still small but limited range eg G5X or G7X.

As suggested above other manufacturers exist. I used Canon SX cameras up to the SX280 but then went to the Panasonic TZ70 and find it as good IQ but it has an EVF and better features.

Orlysud,

I am fan of Canon for many-many years - all my gear is Canon. I bought this camera for it's Wifi mostly and sort of disappointed with picture quality - mostly because of the softness of the images.

For you question. The 30x zoom will bring your subjects closer but it will really work only brightly lit high-contrast subjects. Otherwise picture will be blurry either because of ISO set to high or the shake. IS helps but not that much. Birds I would think does not fall in this category.

For the emailing pictures - it can sort of work - but you will need to use your cellphone as intermediary device. I think You would be better served by camera with articulated screen to make it easier to compose. Look at Canon G cameras - they seems to be notch higher in quality. Tip - check Canon website for refurbished cameras - you can get basically new camera for half the price.
