I think your problem may be camera shake. I put the image through "Shake Reduction" in Photoshop Elements 14 and it has sharpened it up a lot. I am not sure if it shows on this thread but it is much better on my computer. Try taking a photo using a tripod and see if it makes a difference.

So, you are saying the OP needs to cut down on coffee and Red Bull? hehehe

Without going thru all the replies, my first thought was OIS, or lack thereof in the 30mm prime.

Why is priority on release? Don't tell me you're doing that with CAF.....

Re: NX1 photo iq & focus issues

DIS is for video only. If you are trying to keep the camera still, 1/125 would normally be enough, but I've seen some people that shake more and it is not enough for them at all. Also, if you're trolling the forum it's easy enough to get some camera shake in there on purpose. I can assure you that this is not a general problem with the camera or lens (though it could be an issue with your copy specifically). I can show shot after shot after shot with that combo that is sharp (as soon as I get that lens back that is... lent it with my NX300 to a friend). I could do the 18-55 instead, or many others.

I suggest that you send your camera for servicing. In the past I had my camera frequently stalling during auto focus. Samsung replaced the PCBA and since then the camera had no problem acquiring focus. AF is now instantaneous.

It's the kit lens (not the S one) with optical stabilization

My camera is problem free. I was just noting that with that combination of settings being overly quick on the trigger may not result in focused images.

I think there is some shutter shock also with nx500 at least. Definitely I feel the shock in hand, which didn't happen with my nx300 and I find that I need higher speeds to be 'steady'. Which is why I now use electronic first shutter and seems to help by 0.5 stop at least.

I am starting to realize that shutter shock is a bigger problem than I thought in NX500. Definitely more than the NX300, and almost unusable for slower than 1/80 speeds. Really dissapointed as I have to alter my style now.

Are there any disadvantages to the electronic shutter?

I made a few quick tests at iso 3200 and couldn't find any clear difference.

Hmm, are you sure it's shutter shock?
I don't own an NX500, but the NX1 definitely doesn't suffer from shutter shock. I just shot a few hundred sharp shots at around 1/15 with the NX1 in Paris. Granted, it was the ultra wide 12-24, but shutter shock doesn't care about that, and this lens isn't stabilized.

I don't use more than 3200iso for 98% of my shots anyway. I will start using the e-shutter from tmrow to see.

I will probably have access to my NX1 end of the weak, I will check, but you have to realize that NX500 is a much smaller camera with similar hardware and probably the same shutter mechanism with the NX1, so I can see that it is possible to have difference there.
I did some tests yesterday, but I don't have a computer here to inspect more thoroughly, but I am confident it is shutter shock, i see it clearly in landscape photos with sharp lines in the horizon with the 30mm, which is unstabilized ofcourse. The stabilized 50-200 does a better job, but most of my photos with it are at well lit blue skies (fast shutter speeds). Legacy lenses very problematic with lower speeds, and 16-50pz, who knows?!

It's not the same shutter, NX1 is around 30% faster (1/6000 vs 1/8000, 1/200 vs 1/250).
