My 25/1.7 also front focuses, most notably at infinity. Closer up it seems fine (though it has more problems on the GX8 than on my E-M10 II). Near infinity, it almost always front focuses a fair bit, causing softness even stopped down.

Landscape shots were one of the first to suggest to me that the softness of indoor shots was something more than poor resolution and why I tested the focusing accuracy.

It's interesting that the lens seemingly focuses better on the EM-10 II than the GX8. Why, I wonder, would that be?

One thought that occurred to me was that it might have something to do with DFD. Focus distance lookup table not quite matching the actual behavior of the lens?

I had the same issue with my G7 with the 14-140 lens. I ended up returning the G7 for the Sony A6000.

I have the same issue with my GM1 mounted with the 14-140 II. Focus seems fine in most focal lengths except at the tele end.

I at first thought it's just my technic and not know this lens enough but after reading similar issues with different lenses at their tele ends, I might have to keep this in mind when shooting at tele ends.

Near infinity, it almost always front focuses a fair bit, causing softness even stopped down. Manaully focusing will sharpen it up (though it's only 'good' stopped down anyway). For close up work, it works fine for me...nails focus for the most part and is decently sharp at f/1.7. Really have to be careful for shooting landscapes with it though.

i know this is an old thread, but i've had my 25mm f1.7 for almost a year but didn't use it much until recently.  and so i noticed that something in the AF was really wonky particulary at longer distances.  i couldn't put my finger on why that's happening.

until i read this thread ...

it's front-focusing and/or decentered.  i'm sending it to Panasonic for repair.

just curious. anyone send it to panasonic for repair and did it get fixed?

Re: Not sure, however....

I see that back in May 2018 there was a firmware update for several cameras and lenses - including the 25mm f/1.7 - model H-H025

http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index2.html

Perhaps not the solution - they say it's purpose is... "Improved focusing stability when using the Lens Position Resume function." ... but thought I'd give a try tomorrow.

thanks. i did that f/w update but the lens was still front-focusing.

strange. i thought contrast detect shouldn't have this issue.  maybe it does focus correctly, but just when the shutter opens the focus shifts?  DK.

Also Sony A7iii

I also have been thinking, this would not happen in mirrorless camera, but obviously it does.

Here the OP seems to refer to 2 other samples of the A7iii.
